We fell in love with this place. We camped in the Whispering Pines campground in site 17. The sites are very spacious and everything is well maintained. They had nice gravel pads and it was a peaceful setting.

As far as parks go, you cannot go wrong with any Virginia State Park. Douthat State Park is no exception. Excellent facilities, excellent personnel, and an excellent time overall. This is a fantastic place for family and friends.

Do you have cabin's from the 30's, or later if none from that period, that are more secluded than others? My family of five is not looking for a beach view, but would love to get a cabin surrounded by trees.

Nobody in our group had service, which made our stay even better. There is free wifi at the store though.
Can I bring my own canoe or kayak to the lake or do I need a permit?

Yes you can bring your own equipment. No permit is needed that I am aware of . The same rules of the water apply as in any other area. Enjoy!! Beautiful place.
