The Museum of Chincoteague sure packs a lot in a small space. A visit leaves one knowing a lot more about the island, and the displays are visually pleasing as well as being informative.

Very interesting. Worth going. Looks small from the outside but so much information and history of the island.

The museum surprisingly had a good number of exhibits to occupy an hour or two. Kids enjoyed as well as adults. Chat with the employees for more info on the island’s history and kid related interests in the museum.

Chincoteague was a Union territory and protected by a ship from the Union during the Civil war, while the remainder of Virginia was Confederate. This and so much more! Take the time to walk through and find out more.

Small, varied, great to linger in. Now there is a new addition in the little carving shed where decoys were long carved and painted. Wish it was manned by an active carver with decoys in various stages of completion.

Not a very large museum, but full of interesting items highlighting the local area's history. Two different scavenger hunts at different levels of difficulty for kids.
