This is the only place in Charlottesville/Albemarle County without a propeller and wings where you can look down on Thomas Jefferson! The view is really great and if you like apples you’re half way to heaven. Kids love it. Great picnic opportunity.

This is a pick-your-own orchard on the top of a mountain overlooking Charlottesville. Incredible views. They also have donuts and wine. Great for a summer's evening.

This was a nice stop, especially on a good weather day. The prices were a little high in the store. The hay ride was short and went around the side of the mountain that didn't have the best views. It was only $3 per person,...More

This place is worth a trip just for the drive up the mountain alone. You can pick your own apples or bag from stands. I chose many different kinds as I really enjoy comparing apples grown in different areas of the country. The soil here...More

We visit twice yearly and Carter Mountain never disappoints. The peach pies, jellies, fresh peaches, apples, plums, apple slushies, and wine tastings are all things we love. The view is beautiful, the grounds are gorgeous and the music events are fantastic. Great for family visits!

No animals. You might see deer, wild turkey, raccoons, possum or other animals native to the area, but unless they have a petting zoo event etc. there are no animals there as part of the attraction.

There is no fee, just the cost of the apples you pick. The cost depends on the type of apples you pick but is slightly less than what you'd pay in the stores.
