In 1774, Thomas Jefferson, one of America's first wine connoisseurs, convinced Italian Philip Mazzei to establish a vineyard on our property. With the financial support of Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Thomas Adams and other prominent colonists, the Virginia Wine Company was founded on present day Jefferson Vineyards. Today Jefferson Vineyards is a boutique, family owned winery. We have been creating nationally recognized, quality Virginia wines from classic varietals for over thirty five years, and are considered a pioneer of the Virginia wine industry. We are located between Monticello (home of Thomas Jefferson) and Ash Lawn (home of James Monroe). We open daily for tastings, from 11AM - 6PM. Tastings are $10 and include a souvenir wine glass. We offer mostly dry wines. Tours are not currently offered. We look forward to your visit.

We had just toured Monticello and was only staying a few miles away so zipped into Jefferson Vineyards. The location is lovely. The tasting staff was extremely knowledgeable. $10. for 10 wines. All very drinkable. Nice winery.

First time visit to a Virginia winery. We had no idea that there were so many wineries in the Charlottesville area. The tasting experience was very nice.

We walked in and immediately got awkward looks from the staff. We went up to pay for the tasting and the employee didn't accept my license because it said under 21. I provided a second form of identification which she also barely looked at and...More

We stopped by the vineyards after a long tour of Monticello. The staff was very knowledgeable of the area, history of the vineyard and their wines. I throughly enjoyed the wine and the views.

This is our first tasting in Virginia, and in comparison to California, Oregon, even France, I give the Jefferson Winery high marks. Wonderful wines, friendly & knowledgeable staff. They were even nice enough to give us a discount as we only drink white wine. All...More

This was our first stop on a wine tasting weekend. The bar has been set high for the weekend. The wines were outstanding and the staff was equal to the wines. It's a must stop.

Our next stop after lunch was to Jefferson Vineyards where we tasted about 14 different wines with once again history details (very crisp, not boring!) shared by our host. We also had some military discount for our active duty family members! We would visit again...More

I am visiting Monticello next month but am short on time and will unable to do a winery tour and tasting. Is there a shop here where I can simply walk in and purchase bottles of wine? Thank you.

We've taken our little guy several times. We usually hold him while we're tasting, but I've seen other dogs just on leashes. We just hold ours because he doesn't always have great manners when he's in small spaces... he... More
