Beautiful scenery. Children enjoyed it. Enjoyable gardens. It is worth the visit. Many people, as I did, get to it via Monticello. It is worth the stop.

For those interested in revolutionary era history, this is a great stop. MJ was our tour guide and she did a fantastic job making us feel the setting and understand the context of Monroe's public service to our budding country. This is a much smaller...More

This was an "ok" place to visit. We went after visiting Monticello and felt that it was not a great, but essential to complete our tour of the presidents' homes. The original house burnt down, but interestingly enough, the archaeologists are there "uncovering it." The...More

It seems what was thought to be Monroe's modest home was really for guests and the original home burned after passing out of the family! I want to know more. The huge oak tree, over 300 years old, is worth the price of admission and...More

It's a very nice 1 hour addition to our day at Monticello. The guides are really enthusiastic, but except slow space. I would recommend the garden tour with the kids, not the house tour. There are even a few animals.

We had a very interesting and informative tour with a great tour guide. She was exceptionally well informed both about the house and James Monroe. Also, there is a very nice gift shop with lots of books about Monroe. When we asked our guide which...More
