I have used this trail many times over the years. It is a easy trail that is very well maintained. The location is very convenient and there is plenty of parking. A great way to stretch a visit to Monticello or Carters Mountain orchard out for free.

Recently went for a walk here with my daughter and two very young grandchildren age 3 & 1 yr.) My daughter had the little ones in a jogging stroller for two and did not have any diggiculty with the very gradual uphill trail. The weather was beautiful and the trail was very clean. We saw people of all ages walking... More

We have visited the Saunders-Monticello Trail a few times throughout the years. It is such a beautiful spot to take a nice walk, and be outdoors. We love the tree stump where the kiddos can explore. We found several other kids playing around the stump last time we visited. We even chose to get our family photos taken here. Beautiful... More

The trail is beautiful and extends from the parking area at the beginning of Thomas Jefferson Blvd to Monticello. Most of the hike is on a wooden path with a few gravel parts. The trail is accessible by wheelchair and stroller. There are benches throughout. I would have given 5 stars but the road noise does influence the ambiance. Parking... More

It was very difficult finding a parking spot. We went up 53 and parked at the side of the road. It's a very gradual uphill trail to Monticello. Beautiful scenery easy path--you'll be happy you hiked.

A beautiful nature trail with a gentle but steady rise from the parking lot up the mountain ending at Monticello. Gorgeous in the fall.

My daughter and I did a one hour walk along this trail. We were there on a Monday and encountered fewer than 10 other people on our walk and found it to be very peaceful and beautiful.

I have frequented this trail many times and never been disappointed! It is beautiful any time of year with abundant shade during the summer, lovely colors in the fall and flowering trees in the spring. If the small parking lot at the base of the trail is full another larger parking lot is not far away. Best of all, after... More

We meant to hike to the Tavern but detoured off the main trail to the Carter Overlook. From there we followed a trail that led us up and eventually down the mountain through more than four miles of wonderful forest. When we returned to the Overlook, we had our picnic and never reached the Tavern (which looked like a tourist... More

We walk this 4-mile total trail every Saturday and Sunday morning. The trail is wide and well-maintained. It is popular but not crowded. So if you walk alone, you feel safe. It's a great workout if you are walking, running or biking.
