This park was established as a whites only park decades after the Confederate States of America lost the Civil War. They put a gaudy statue in the middle of it of a slave owning traitor in the middle of it to make sure blacks knew...More

A very short distance's drive away from my hotel, I across the Rivanna River, and find my way into downtown Charlottesville. Charlottesville made the news in an unfortunate way on August 12, 2017. I find it hard to write a review of the park, as...More

Site of the infamous statue of Robert E. Lee sitting atop his horse. Has been a lightening rod of discontent for a long time. I would avoid the park until C'ville council settles on what to do with the statue.

Visiting Emancipation Park is a quick trip in the center of Charlottesville, Virginia. It is worth the easy walk when you are at the Pedestrian Mall in the center of town.
