This is our first stop of the wine tasting, we were there late Friday afternoon, 40 mins before they closed. very quite, but that is what we like, you can very relax, very friendly staff, the wine are great, we bought a case of wine . they waived the tasting fee when you buy more than 3 bottle. next day after... Awesome tasting room!! At one point there was many people in the tasting room, but they were able to move everyone around so everyone had room to stand and felt comfortable. VERY knowledgeable person pouring (I forgot his name). Great, Great wines, and a very nice smaller stop vs. a larger factory run winery such as nearby Trump.

Had visited First Colony many years ago and we weren't impressed. However, since it is right next door to Michael Shaps Wineworks, we decided to stop in again after visiting Michael Shaps. What a great surprise! The wines are much better now. The tasting room is lovely and the fellow that provided our tasting was great. Very personable and funny.... More

Granted, we only made it to three, but this was the highlight. We had never tried Virginia wines before (although we've been to quite a few wineries throughout the country), and we were VERY pleasantly surprised by what we found here. We walked away with four whites and a rose, as well as a couple reds. The tasting room manager... More

We checked this place out on a whim, not really knowing what to expect. We showed up annoyingly close to closing time and were treated with genuine friendly similes and did not feel rushed at all. The hostess who did our tasting was one of the nicest we met that day and talked with us way past closing time. The... More

I have been to First Colony many times before but not for probably 7-8 years. I remember the wines being average at best but I am always for trying places again. On our recent trip we went to VIrginia Wineworks which was right up the hill from there so we stopped at First Colony and we were glad we did.... More

One of the better VA wineries I visited. Have a good variety including a Port wine. Friendly service which appears to be the norm down here. Worth a visit

Every single visit to First Colony has us walking away more and more impressed. When it came time to plan for a group of 15 for my 40th birthday, I definitely wanted to include this new favorite of ours. They were amazing in setting up the reservation and with follow up. There is no group fee, just their normal $7... More

Very pretty location and a sweet dog to greet you inside! They have foods available for purchase like hummus, cheese, salumis, etc. As wine is a very subjective experience, I will say only that I found my tasting average. However, I have learned that not only are all palates different but the vintage can make all the difference. I would... More
