I have to admit that Jefferson is my favorite founding father and I was really looking forward to this visit. I loved this place, the house, the gardens, the surroundings. The house tour was very informative with something for everybody. The garden tour was also excellent. It takes about three to four hours to enjoy the place at a leisure... More

Monticello speaks for itself. I also recommend walking or running the Monticello trail, which will allow for a 2 mile hike to the Monticello main entrance. This is a must stop for first-time Charlottesville visitors, or UVA students.

Wonderful experience, even on a drizzly day. Our tour guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and answered every question our large group had. There is a lot to see and the history inside the house is fascinating. I could have spent a second day on my own just to walk the grounds and see all of the gardens.

Go go go. Take a tour of house and grounds. Ask questions. Gem of VA. Great way to learn about Jefferson and his lifestyle during his time at Monticello. Come back for their specialized events.

Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson our third president, is a must visit. It is the only presidential home designated a World Heritage site. Situated atop a small mountain just outside Charlottesville, Virginia, Monticello, the house and surrounding land offer a historical lab for both the young and the not so young to explore. The visitors' center offers numerous displays and... More

The visit to Monticello provides a detailed, inside look at our amazing third president. I strongly encourage spending the extra money to take the "behind the scenes" tour for a number of reasons: 1) All tours go through the first floor of the house but only the BTS gets to walk through the second and third floors. 2) The BTS... We enjoyed our visit. The official guided tour was sometimes somewhat funny for a European to hear:-) as it was mainly targeted at American audience, but still very instructive (and not too long which is definitely a plus). If you like nature and gardening, don't forget to take also the free guided tours of the terrain and the gardens! Jefferson... More

We had to visit since we were here and we were not disappointed. The setting is beautiful. Everything is well run. It was busy when we went so can't imagine how busy it must be in the high season. The tour guide was excellent. We enjoyed it so much we spent a small fortune on history books in the gift... More

Took a ride to Monticello. Started with a short movie about Thomas Jefferson. Then we took the shuttle bus up the hill to his house for a tour. The tour was interesting, the scenery from the hilltop was outstanding.

We were last here over 20 years ago- wow what a change. There is a nice visitor center where up you check in and start your tour. We purchased the Neighborhood Pass online which gives you the option of seeing Monticello, Ashlawn-Highland and Michie Tavern on your own schedule over several days. You also can see a short film about... More
