At nearly 18 miles long, this bridge-tunnel complex is one of the engineering wonders of the world. Connecting Virginia's Eastern Shore with Virginia's mainland in Virginia Beach/Norfolk, this facility will save travelers 90 miles or more as they travel from points north of Wilmington, Delaware and head down the East Coast towards Virginia Beach or North Carolina's Outer Banks. With a restaurant and gift shop located on the southernmost island of the facility, travelers can enjoy spectacular views of the Chesapeake Bay while dining on delicious Virginia-inspired cuisine or while shopping for unique gifts and souvenirs. AND, the 625-foot fishing pier, located 3.5 miles off shore, provides anglers with a unique fishing opportunity, while leaving the boat at home! Enjoy these unique amenities while you can as the restaurant, gift shop and fishing pier will be closing in October 2017 to make way for the construction of the Parallel Thimble Shoal Tunnel.

Although it costs $12 - it's worth the ride over and under the bay... seems like about 12+ miles and the vistas are worth it. We got to see a naval destroyer going out to sea plus multiple freighters... try to hold your breath while...More

I was searching for a getaway adventure on the East Coast for us and came across a picture of Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel connecting Newport News with the Virginia Eastern Shore. I was intrigued. I have a fear of bridges and this one has two tunnels...More

As I am from India, this looks very similar to Raameshwaram bridge. But it have tunnel and sight seeing location. You can take a U turn after Crossing two tunnels. But the Tóll gate ticket costs $13.

In the 40+ years I've lived in Virginia, this was my first bridge and tunnel trip. I can't believe I've been missing these views all these years. Bring a camera and let someone else do the driving.

Our relatives think we should visit this engineering marvel so we drove through the tunnel and stop off at the gift shop where I brought some peanut brittle as gifts. Beautiful scenery. I can see the distant coastline of Virginia Beach. We then turned back...More

Bridge is beautiful, just be on the look out for trucks going over speed limit. When it merges to two lanes in tunnel trucks don't care and go too fast.

Just being on this bridge over the water for 23 miles is amazing in itself, but there is also an overlook on the bridge for you to stop. At this stop, you can eat, use the restrooms, or visit the small giftshop, which has some...More

Beautiful place to visit. The bridge goes under water twice. There's a restaurant/guft shop on the bridge. The food there is very good.

This drive was the culmination of a wonderful set of circumstances. Being a Virginia native, I'd never returned to the town I left for good in early childhood. So Hubby and I detoured off I-95 during our current road trip to check out Virginia's east...More

I love the convenience when going homeward bound from VB to NYC/NJ, but as a citizen of VB and a taxpayer in the state of VA, we need a break on the toll.More

Thank you for your review! As you travel the East Coast Corridor, this facility offers a savings with time and mileage vs. traveling I-95. Please know that this 23-mile facility was constructed and is operated without the use of federal, state or local tax money....More

I did not experience any construction on either end of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel during our travel.
How much does it cost

Tolls are dependent on the type of vehicle you are driving when you cross. Passenger cars and pick-up trucks are $13 one way on Monday thru Friday; $15 if you are traveling on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday before September... More
