A friend and I were on our annual Vermont get-a-way recently, and we found this new (for us) place nearby to hike. I've driven past a hundred times but had never stopped before. Access to the park (Townshend State Forest) is off Rt. 30 at the Townshend dam. Directions in my trail guide were not good in helping us find... More

We camp at TSP every Labor Day for the chance to enjoy the great outdoors in an atmosphere of relaxation. "Primitive" camping with no hookups, beautiful trail leading up Bald Mountain, first class park rangers(Gary & his wife Pat), and fellow campers who are kind and considerate make this one of our favorite vacations of the year. If you're into... More

The view from the bridge was amazing! Excellent place to have/hold a picnic. Playgrounds for the young ones.

Hiked Bald Mt. on Wed. July 27 and was the only one on the mountain up and down. It is a fantastic mountain to climb with decent elevation (1,100 gain). The trail is is fantastic condition and one of the best I have ever hiked on frankly. Lots of beautifully constructed water bars prevents serious trail erosion. Be forewarned of... More

We did not camp but just spent a lovely 3ish hours hiking to the top of Bald Mountain and back down. Physically it is not a very difficult hike; it goes up a bit steeply in some places and provides a nice little workout. Beautiful views from the top.

Entrance from Rt. 30 is on dangerous curve of busy highway, very narrow roads, NO camping other than primitive. Very little parking where picnic tables and gazebo are situated. Very RV / motorhome unfriendly. Skip this one!

We went to see if we could do some bass fishing... There is a boat ramp, a large picnic area, playsets, it's in the mountains, what's not to like???

Small, clean campground. Nice hiking trails. Bathrooms are a definitely why I would not return to this campground. Bathrooms extremely small. Have to sit sideways on the toilets in both the men and women's bathrooms. The water barely trickles from the women's shower, then men's shower was good. One sink and one hook in all bathrooms and limited shelving so... More

I wound up with the weekend off last minute and being 4th of July weekend my hopes of finding a campground were low but WOW did Townshend State park come through. From the moment I called and spoke with PAT, she was wonderful and helped pick out the PERFECT campsite. From the moment we arrived to the sad moment we... More

Labor Day weekend my family and I spent 3 nights at Townshend State Park. It is a hidden gem in the Vermont Park system and has replaced my love of Gifford Woods. The park has streams and a brook running through it and if you are lucky enough you can listen to the water flowing from your camp ground. There... More
