The golden dome at the top is a cynosure. Standing majestic at the center of the capital city is worth a visit. We didn't see many visitors perhaps due to inclement weather but the building itself is good good to miss.

Smallest state capital but beautiful. I rode my e-bike by it several times a week during the summer. Great place to see if you're in town. DMV is across the street, so you have an excuse.

When we were there the state house was under renovation so the dome was covered with scaffolding. The grounds were beautifully landscaped unfortunately we were not able to go inside the building. Parking is available on the street and in a nearby lot.

They were not in session, so we could see both chambers, which was interesting to the children. Workers were helpful and friendly.

The towns of Waterbury, Stowe and Quechee are nice small towns to visit that are close to Montpelier, if you have a couple or few days to enjoy Vermont.
