On I-80 while you are still in Utah heading west to Nevada, there is a rest stop on the north side (sorry, I can't attest to the same opportunity on the south side). In addition to stretching your legs and using the facilities, you have...More

Never suspected we would drive by the Home of Speed. After mile after mile of salt flats coming out of Salt Lake City we passed a road sign indicating the Salt Flats. It was amazing standing on the site of so many historical speed records....More

This rest area is one of the coolest places to stop and walk around. Here you can walk on the salt flats take pictures and stretch your legs. It's amazingly white and bright and just so interesting, as if you were in a sci-Fi movie....More

Definitely worth the detour to see this place! Like nothing I've ever seen before. However, if you are in a rental car or don't want salt caked all on your undercarriage, I would recommend stopping at the rest area a couple miles east of the...More

No races or trials were taking place and no episodes of auto shows were being taped, but it was still a fun visit. We didn't know what to expect and didn't know we would be able to drive on the flats. Once we saw mini...More

Something like you have never seen before miles of nothing but salt. It is everywhere. Short drive off the interstate and you are at the gate. The flats can be seen all along the highway but more fun to be out on them

This is a must visit for anyone who has a heavy right foot and an interest in speed. Standing on the salt flat and looking into the shimmering distance give a concept of what the first time drivers face. The curvature of the earth means...More

I've been through the Salt Flats in November and they were bone dry. I was there last April, though, and they were completely covered in water as far as I could see. The water was about ankle deep or so, and I walked quite a... More

It will surprise you, just down a mile or two road then a turn around. Just salt that's it and mountains in the back ground. I wish I could get my photos on here I will try later. There is nothing there except a gas station... More
