Excellent visitor center with friendly staff and great educational items for kids and adults. A must for anyone traveling or looking to travel into the GESNM with regards to current road conditions.

We stopped at the huge Visitor Center for the Grand Staircase area in Escalante. It covers three parks: Glen Canyon, Grand Staircase and Dixie State Park. They also gave us information about the Petrified Forest. It was large, well-managed and informative.

The highlight of the visitor center is the topographical map which provides a good orientation to the unique geography of central southern Utah. There are stuffed animals and birds which could be particularly interesting for children.

The lizard out front, and the displays inside. This actually is worth checking out and getting more info on other caves, slot canyons, and trails in the area.

Visit then get out...More

This was a good stop with some excellent information on local plants, soils, and animals. Maps with hiking and driving information were also available. Down side is they aren't able to tell you where local historic sites (petroglyphs and pictographs) are located.

There are guided tours. It may be a good idea. The signs around Zebra canyon are non existant. VERY easy to get lost. Do peek a boo canyon!!!!Have fun.
