We took Route 12 from Torrey,Utah(Capital Reef National Park) to Hurrican,Utah (Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks). By far one of the most beautiful and inspiring drives we’ve ever made and we’ve driven much of the country. Forget the Interstates and see the magnificent landscape...More

We try and drive this beautiful byway at least once a year. It is one of our favorite places to go on earth.

We rode highway 12 in both directions on our motorcycle. A great variety of landscape and scenery. Lots of curves along the way. Loved the stretch from Escalante to Boulder. Great road to ride on, well maintained.

We took 2 days to do it, staying at Escalante Yurts on the way, which was in itself lovely. Breathtaking views, all the way. Well worth the drive, could do it in a day as well.

Just please take it easy. When the sign says 25 mph, honor that. Big RVs, little cars.... everybody needs to take it easy to enjoy this beautiful road with some very serious sheer drop-offs. It's a great drive.

Route 12 is particularly beautiful between Boulder and Escalante. The road narrows to cliffs on and has dramatic views on either side. It is particularly lovely at sunset with all of the red rock and deeply carved river canyons. Breath-taking and highly recommended. If passengers...More

This connects the Escalate Grand Staircase National Monument to Bryce Canyon City Utah. Was a old mule wagon route. Is now a paved, curvy, scenic road with 12% grades and 95% without guard rails. Is a THRILL to drive! We loved it. Take the time...More

Hey Bunny, When we drove through 12 (September), I saw a few bike riders but it is out of my league. The road is paved (but some areas have no shoulder (other than dirt) and there are quite a few hills. I cannot... More

This year the foliage is just starting to change color and will continue for 2-3 weeks. I think it is a little late this year, usually begins the 2nd week in Sept thru the month. Heavy rain reduces the color and duration.
