Learn all about Wharton County and there heritage. Great little museum it is in an awesome town of Wharton , Really enjoy spending hours reading and enjoyed seeing the house that Dan Rather grew up in . Don't forget to go to the 20th Century Technology Museum next door.

This is a gem of museum, especially if you are from the Wharton County area! If you are from Wharton County or have friends or family who are, you really should visit this museum. The old camera section alone is worth the visit. There are also many old photographs to view.

My son's father in law, who lives in the area, told me of this place and how it was started by local hunters and historians. It was a pleasant surprise. Really enjoyed my time here as I learned about the history and beginnings of this part of Texas.

Visitors for Thanksgiving enjoyed the whole Museum experience! All of the displays were very nice, but my grandkids loved the animals from the Johnson Family's Collection!

The previous reviewer about said it all. The Wharton County History Museum is extremely well done, with informative, professional displays covering the history of Wharton County and nearby areas. Linda Bubela, Assistant Administrator, was able to give me a tour of the museum and was very friendly and informative. This is one of the best county history museums I've visited.... More

The Wharton County Historical Museum is a real gem in SE Texas. Located about 55 miles SW of downtown Houston, the museum captures the history of the county and region in photographs, artifacts, and displays. Significant exhibits include the home that Veteran CBS Newscaster Dan Rather was born in. There is an extensive display of the works and history of... More

My grandmother came from a large old Wharton family. I had been meaning to stop in the museum for a long time. Today I went by not knowing what I would find. I had a wonderful visit. Linda, a museum staffer showed me to a back room with family files. I found photos of my great grandmother and great great... More
