Miles, upon miles, upon miles of hiking. Occasional water run-off. Affordable and convenient. But use at your own risk..... these aren't guided tours. If you are into geology, wildlife, tent camping and nature, this is the thing for you. The headquarters on FM 170 outside of Lajitas, also has an amazing museum, showcasing the last 100,000+ years for this area.... More

I'm so glad the State of Texas has preserved this area. After going through Big Bend, I thought we'd be saturated with incredible mountains and canyons. Not so. First, be sure to stop at the Visitor's Center at the east end of the Park. it is well worthwhile and has some very good displays. The Ranger was both informative and... More

Beautiful scenery along the main drive. We had a beautiful campsite on the river. Much prettier park than Big Bend National

We stayed a week. There were 2 couples, each traveling in separate RV's. The star gazing at night is super! There is a laundromat on the premises but a lot of the machines were out of order so we didn't want to use them. There are many interesting things to do in the area and a GREAT grocery store just... With only a day to spend in the Big Bend area I did not have the time to visit the park but did take a drive on the River Road from Presidio to Lajitas. The road hugs the Rio Grande for most of the 20 miles and offers beautiful views of this rugged southwest terrain. There are several places to... More

Hiked this trail on our way from Big Bend National Park to Big Bend Ranch State Park. Scenic Drive Hwy 170 from Terlingua to Presidio is stunning and includes this hike and several others. This is worth the stop even though you can't get all of the way to the end without ropes. Easy hike until you get to the... More

The national park seemed so removed from nature and sterile at times but the state park let you get up close and personal!!!! My fave!!!

This is our second time to camp here. It is a wonderful place to experience the rugged beauty and solitude of Big Bend. We saw deer, jackrabbits, and roadrunners, heard owls and coyotes at night, and explored a few trails. Breathtaking view of the stars at night. (Make sure you do research and reserve an appropriate campsite....only a few sites... More

Most beautiful drive in West Texas. Stopped and walked out to the Rio Grandè. Most beautiful shade of turquoise blue I've ever seen. Took off my shoes, rolled up my pants and submerged myself up to my ankles. Tried to convince my Yankee husband to come in with me, the water was invigorating, quite cold and rushing actually.... He declined... More

When we told a friend that we were going to Big Bend National Park, he recommended that we also visit the state park. So happy we did. We liked how low key it was compared to the national park. Tip--if coming in through Presidio, you need to stop at Fort Leaton first to pay and for information. We spent time... More
