Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice trek up the hill to the "throne" cut out of a massive granite rock formation. We saw Roe deer along the path we took and the woodpeckers were busy with their rat-ta-tat search for tree insects. We went on a Wednesday in March which was nice because the trails were not full and it was not hot. The bonus is that the museums in San Lorenzo are free on Wednesday afternoons! Beware of walking on unmarked paths, the scenery is beautiful but we came out about a kilometer ABOVE the throne. Luckily, a bicyclist set us straight. The large gravel and asphalt paths are a sure thing.

Very busy, and you need a car to get there. Lots of walking in the hills around, and the view is splendid. Go early or late if you can.

Deep in La Herreria forest, it's worth a walking trip from downtown (1:15 hours aprox, one way), but you can also reach it by car. The views of the Monastery, with the town at its back and mountain range embracing it all is great. There is a bar as well, but nearby there are plenty of areas to sit down if you bring your food and drinks.

Although La Silla isn't that easy to find (especially if you aren't coming by car), it's worth it! The views of the valley, mountains, and town of El Escorial are fantastic - bring your camera! There's also a small bar serving basic drinks and food. It's a nice, quiet, relaxing place for a beer in the woods.

It was a “normal” hot day so we opted to drive up to the entrance instead of taking the short walk up the hill. Once parked, you can see the vistas and the giant boulders are almost in your face. Don’t know if the legend is true.. was the seat created for King Felipe to scan the horizon of this gorgeous town? Either way, the view from here is worth the trek. Some of the path is very uneven so best to wear good walking/ comfortable shoes. Also, wind may pick up so stay within the boundaries 😮😊

Went to Felipe's chair for a brief visit and the wonderful views. Did not disappoint. Took a taxi because three in our party were not able to do the long walk, but worth the taxi fare.

Yes, I was eating alot. Yes, I was sitting on planes, cars and busses. So who's not going to want to get a bit of a sweat on and climb a pleasant 2 miles up to a vista point? I wanted to do it for the exercise, but the vista - once up there - was totally amazing. You could see all the way into Madrid, as well as the lovely town of El Escorial. Not sure how to find it except to look for the "La Silla" signs - we parked at the bottom and walked up. Got there at 11am to beat the heat and crowds. As we were coming down around 12:30 crowds (families with picnics) and heat were arriving in spades.

Put on your hiking shoes for the pleasant 4 km walk (8 km there and back) from San Lorenzo de El Escorial to Filipe's stone chair overlooking the monastry. A wonderful excursion to start or end the day.

Need to go to La Silla, great view. There is also a small bar there but does not open until 5pm. The locals love it there.
