Trujillo is the cradle of Spanish conquistadors, including Francisco Pizarro and Francisco de Orellana, The best way to enjoy this historic town is sitting down for a coffee at one of the coffee shops on the Plaza Mayor and feel surrounded by history. Amazing!

We stayed in Merida for 4 days and the visit to Trujillo was an add on. So glad we went there. Merida and Caceres are much grander places but this little town captured my soul. Just doing nothing more strenuous than lifting a glass of...More

Off the beaten track for English tourists, but this is where many of the South American conquistadors like Francisco Pizarro (1471–1541) hailed from. Loads of history here and loads of value for money restaurants. Parking is free, mostly in side streets south of the town.

. The Centro Historico - Historic Centre - of Trujillo is quite charming. Unlike many historic centres in towns of Spain, it is fairly un-touristy. By this I mean that it is not full of shops selling souvenirs and tourist tat, nor bars advertising "All-day...More

A beautiful place to base yourself to explore the fabulous area - especially is you like birds. Sat in the square with a drink you are treated to a display from lesser kestrels who hovered above us.

We love Trujillo, walking up to the top via the quaint little old streets is not too strenuous (we are in our 70s) and the view from the there is amazing. All of old Trujillo merits gold stars!
