Took a tour from Athens City Center to The Temple of Poseidon for about £40. It was a fantastic decision. Great escape from the busy city center. Gorgeous Views and a Colossal sized Monument. Definitely would recommend anyone who wants to broaden there reach outside of just Athens City!

This place is amazing, the view from the temple is breath taking! The beach also that is very close to the temple is beautiful, with sand and very clean water! Love it! <3

It is a trip worth making when visiting Athens. Less that an hour away from the center of Athens, follow the route through Lavrio, visit one of the most beautiful ancient Greek temple, find out how the Aegean see has taken its name and enjoy a breathtaking view with a cup of coffee overlooking the shades of the Greek Aegean... In Greek Mythology, like Indian Mythology, every element has god or goddess. Temple of Poseidon, located at sounion is a tribute to water, the element. It appears that the temple was dedicated to Poseidon, and it was built upon the remains of an even earlier poros temple whose foundations are still visible. The temple has marble doric columns. Located atop... More

Get there just before the sunset, and there are multiple vantage points from where you can take in the beautiful sunset with the Temple. You can enjoy the Temple/Sunset from the temple itself, or take a short 2-3 minute walk up the hill located next to the parking lot to view the sunset in the background of the temple, or... More

The location of the temple is unique. Try to visit before sunset, and enjoy the magic of the Saronic gulf and the Aegean Sea that meet at this place. The ruins are imposing although quite damaged from the elements of nature that can be quite harsh at this point, and from human intervention through the ages. Try to combine with... More

The first thing the barbarians would see when approaching from the sea the temple of Poseidon. A magical spot and a lovely place to watch the sunset. When in Athens a must on your itinerary.

Nice day trip from Athens - well worth the 1 hour drive, which is so beautiful. As you get closer to the sea, it gets better and better. Such an awesome piece of history in such a beautiful setting. Wonderful!
