Description:

Located between Doncaster and Scunthorpe, The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft...

Located between Doncaster and Scunthorpe, The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft houses the world's largest collection of historic trolleybuses, together with a number of other vehicles including period motor buses. The Museum offers a fascinating day out for all the family. We are open to the public on specific event days when visitors can ride on a selection of our trolleybuses under the specially-erected overhead. We also operate a free conducted tour in one of a number of our vintage motor buses. Other attractions include our 5-star rated cafe, children's play area, 1950s/60s shop displays, presentations in our cinema, a 1950s Prefab home and a cycle and lawnmower shop display. The theme of our special exhibition in the Pelham Building is "Trolleybuses during the First World War." Many event days also feature themes and additional visiting attractions. There is level access to most features on our site. If you need assistance our volunteers are always happy to help. We now have a height-adjustable changing bench in our disabled toilet.

Having visited previously we were pleased to see the many improvements to the facilities and in particular the wide range of Trolleybuses. Our visit on 31st July was to the annual fantastic 'Sandtoft Gathering' which included a virtually non-stop running of several trolleybuses on site plus free vintage motor bus trips for several miles around the area. Over a hundred... More

Thank you for your comments. We're always striving to make improvements and because we're all volunteers all our income is ploughed back into maintaining and improving the museum and the vehicles. That means that every visitor helps us to further improve. We hope you'll be back soon - with your camera! More

Took the opportunity of a holiday in Lincolnshire to visit this special place, timing perfect for European weekend. Not only everything others have already described in reviews here but lucky to get the European trolleybus video and talk. Contrary to some of the negative comments in the Yorkshire Evening Post about the demise of the Leeds Trolleybus plan TBs are... More

Thank you for your review and for your very kind comments about our presentations about modern trolleybuses which we ran on Saturday and Sunday. It's great to know that you enjoyed your visit so much and that the presentation made clear the role that the trolleybus could make in helping to reduce air pollution in our cities. More

A nice museum where you get the chance to ride on a choice of trolleybuses several times round a short course on site. You can also take the opportunity to take a half hour bus (normal if a bit dated single decker) trip around the Isle of Axholme (included in the entrance fee). There is a 1950s prefab bungalow decked... More

Thank you for your comments. You are correct in saying that we need more display space. We have a long-term development plan to replace the existing depot building with new buildings which will allow us to better display our historic vehicles. That will take some years to achieve but because we're all volunteers all the money we make from admissions... More

What a pleasant experience. Truly a great visit. Well worth a visit. Enjoy a trolley ride around t he place too. Plus take a vintage ride through the surrounding villages with a great fella telling you some interesting facts about them.

We took our Grandaughter to see the trolley buses at Sandtoft, we were surprised to see fire engines there as well, we had a great time looking at old trolley buses also riding in selected ones. We also had a ride for half an hour around the village of Sandtoft on an old motorised single decker with some very informative... More

Thank you for your comments. We're glad that you enjoyed yourselves. We usually have a theme for our open weekends and the fire engines were visiting for our annual "Blues & Twos" event, but the trolleybus rides and the Isle of Axholme tour are always part of what we do. Thank you again for encouraging others to come and see... More

Sandtoft was somewhere I had been meaning to go for years. We had such a beautiful and interesting day out with the children. A warm welcome from the enthusiastic volunteer staff and a museum packed with nostalgia and things of interest. The trolleybuses from far and wide have been lovingly restored (thank goodness) and once you have paid to get... More

Thank you for your review. We're all volunteers and we love to know that our visitors have enjoyed themselves. Thank you for pointing out that it isn't obvious from our website that we have a cafe. Visitors often say that the cafe's homemade cakes are a highlight of their visit so we need to make people aware that it's there! More

Thank you for your kind comments; it's great to know that you enjoy the Gathering. Thank you for your suggestion about the cash machine. We appreciate it when visitors make suggestions for improvements they would like to see and we give them all careful consideration. As we are only open on around 30 days every year it's unlikely that we... More

Really enjoyed my visit to the "Sandtoft Gathering" day. Loads of trolleybuses to see and ride on - even more in various states of restoration in the sheds. .I was amazed how quiet running trolleybuses are - what a shame we have noisy diesel buses now. Plenty of parking on site so no worries there. Note that they are only... More

Thank you for coming to the Gathering and for your review. For this year's Gathering we had a huge increase in the number of historic vehicle entries and a huge increase in visitor numbers. It's great to know how much you enjoyed yourself. More

I really do like it here. Some fantastic transport heritage and history for all to enjoy and appreciate. Best to go on one of the busier big event days, like the Gathering day in July, or euro/worldwide events, or Leger run in October. Possibly only a half day vist to be honest, and not a great deal that will keep... More
