We heard of a few interesting graves that had historical influence in Jefferson, so we decided to make a visit. The grounds are certainly interesting with plenty of history, funeral art, and graves of general interest. If you like cemeteries, you will like Oakwood.

Very interesting reading the stones. Seemed like so much history in one place and the family's here had homes in the town. You could feel the life they lived and what they had also lost. So many children there. The hardships so many families went...More

Um... I don't want to be disrespectful of the dearly departed but we toured this cemetery after visiting the Grove. There is a lot of history in this place and after reading some of the local history and familiarizing ourselves with the names of notable...More

We stopped by to mainly see Diamond Bessie's grave but got caught up searching all the history. A very old grave with grave markers dating back to the 1870's, possibly earlier. It is very well maintained.

We couldn't figure out how to get in, but finally found an open gate. We drove around, got out of the car and walked around, and saw nothing of interest. Normally, we love old cemeteries but didn't see anything special about this one. I know...More

We wanted a look at the history of Jefferson from the tombstone perspective. Lots of eloquent markers, lots of dreadful history, and lots of military markers that spoke of the wild nature during the reconstruction period after the civil war.

The gates were open early in the morning when we arrived around 9:00 am. I don't know that they close but the cemetery is certainly open during the daylight hours.
