If you're passing through you can make a quick stop at the Sam Houston monument. Do not park on the side of the highway, follow he signs and it will take you to free parking! There is a visitors centers and some benches to sit on. Follow the short trail and there is a small outdoor amphitheater which features Sam... More

The statue is interesting because it's so tall. I signed the guest list at the novelty shop. It's a 15minute stop. Once you've seen it, it's time to go. I'm not saying it's a waste of time, but it's nothing historical. Visit in town for Sam's grave , home and museum. That's were the history begins.

Stopped here after passing the big statue several times on the highway. Its a little hard to get back to but worth the side trip. Not a big area but well kept and educational. Great place to get out and stretch and get a little education about Texas.

The visitor information center adjacent to the statue was extremely helpful. They had helpful brochures which the staff used to provide directions and recommendations. The statue was impressive.

This is a very impressive bit of engineering/ architecture/art that we had driven past way too quick up the Interstate ... When next in Conroe we decided to call in to have a better look at the Big Man and took the opportunity of taking some great photos especially with his spare head. Cute gift shop.

This is a great and quick way to pull over and get a cool family photo with the statue in the background or take pictures in general of your family members with the statue. There's also a replica of his head located feet away from the large statue. Younger kids and adults alike enjoy sticking their hand in his nostril... More

There were so many times that my husband and I had driven by the Sam Houston Statue in Huntsville,Texas but we never stopped to visit. That is until December – 2015. We were RV camping with our grandchildren at Huntsville State Park ~ which is just a couple of miles from the Sam Houston Statue. Perfect time to explore a... More

Nice place to stop for a little while and walk around. It has a small gift shop with interesting things. There is not much to do there but worth stopping.

Coming into Huntsville from the south you can't miss Big Sam. Statue of Sam Houston stands guard above the neighboring pines. Interesting stop. Nice gift shop. Clean amenities.

Friendly staff at the Visitors center and gift shop. Not much to do but take pictures of the statute. The statue can be seen off the highway also. Loved the area, good shade.
