Pretty incredible this whole building was built to show giant Cy Twombly paintings. I'm actually not a fan of his work, but in this context I had an emotional reaction. Especially the rose paintings.. pretty powerful. You can do this museum across the street from...More

Look, I get that modern art is subjective, and some modern artists have created some truly unique works that have truly challenged the boundaries of self-expression. Cy Twombly is not one of those. He's not, and unlike many artists, this isn't open to debate. Creating...More

I'm a big fan of much modern art (Anselm Kiefer is a particular favorite of mine), but Twombly's works did not do much for me. Plus the museum guards were really annoying. They were highly suspicious of our children and watched us like hawks the...More

Opposite the Menil Collection and the Rothko chapel, it's easy for this gallery to be over-looked. I've never been a great fan of Twombly, but this small gallery has transformed the way I view him. Excellent.

Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg had a third artist friend / lover / etc - Cy Twombly. Houston has a museum devoted to his works - and volunteers eager to inform you about his place in mid 20th century art.
