One of the best zoos in the country! New gorilla exhibit is stunning. Allow lots of time, it's huge.

During the Holiday Season, the Houston Zoo runs evening holiday lights, self-walk tours through the zoo area. Special tickets are required and can be purchased online. It is a nice family event for young and teenage children alike. Only a few animal exhibits are open, but the setting is quite nice for this evening walk through.

We couldn't be happier with our visit to Houston Zoo. So many beautiful animals in great enclosures, our favourites being the elephants, silver back gorillas, orangutans and giraffes. Feeding the giraffes was a awesome highlight my kids will remember for a long time. As you'd expect, zoo food is average and pretty junky, but I wasn't expecting anything better. The... More

We absolutely loved visiting this zoo with our triplets! The train ride was a favorite of theirs and it was wonderful. The crowd wasn't too bad and the weather was fine for us. We are Dallas Zoo members and it was a nice surprise to see animals at the Houston Zoo that we normally do not see at our home... More

I love to visit Zoos and observe animals and birds. Had been a to a lot of manmade jungles but Houston Zoo is the best I have ever been. A lot of place to walk around. very clean and well maintained. Helpful signboards and direction boards, affordable inside dining and much more. The indoor special habitat for rare species of... More

The zoo is massive, the staff really helpful and the range of animals impressive. The only small negative would be the petting zoo only having goats. The enclosures are well set up and look appealing. Feeding the giraffes was a highlight.

We had such a blast at the Houston Zoo. There was a large variety of animals, a lot of which were up-close, which was awesome for the kids. As we walked through, there were many opportunities for feedings of limited animals, but there were also workers who stood outside and talked about the animals. This was a really cool way... More

What better way to walk off those extra holiday pounds than to head to the zoo on a lovely Fall day? The weather Saturday could not have been better, so we were able to see every exhibit at the zoo. The elephants are always adorable, though this visit we watched the youngest pick up poo and eat it! Grossed out... More

The animals were obviously very well cared for. Not enough room in some of the enclosures - the ostriches were in with the giraffes and I could see they were trying to run, but there was not enough room for them. There were only 2 places to eat which were open. One just served pizza, nothing else. The other served... More

The first important lesson we learned is that you must get there to park at least 30minutes before the zoo opens. The zoo doesn't have parking so you must park in the lots throughout the green space and if they are filled you will need to park at the medical center and walk to the zoo. We have visited many...
