Houston's Museum District is a fantastic part of the city. Plenty to see and also a wonderful place to just walk around if you're not interested in a museum. Be sure to visit Hermann Park. The Museum of Natural Science is my favorite.

We have recently visited the Degas exhibit and found it to be an outstanding display of many of his well known works. Over the years, the standard of every permanent and traveling exhibit stands with the world's best museums!

Yes, I believe there are evening events on Thursdays for single adults. Check the Museum Website and also Yelp! Enjoy!
