We visited Sam Houston park during our time in Houston and it was a nice green space in the middle of the city. There are numerous historic houses in the park which are interesting to look at, and there are a few small ponds with statues and water features.
It is a nice place to come for an hour or so when the weather is nice, and it's free to go to. There is also a visitor centre which provides some information about the history of the houses and the park.
Overall, I would recommend visiting if you're exploring Houston city as it is centrally located and it's a nice green space to have a stroll.

We visited Sam Houston Park for the Hot Chocolate Run 15k. It is a beautiful park and has lots of historic buildings on the grounds. We found ample pay parking nearby, but little to no free parking. We were there on a beautiful weekend day in February!

We really liked the large expanse of lawn, huge trees and multiple gardens inside this green getaway in downtown Houston.
We found free parking in the Historical Society across the street. Good to combine both places in one visit.
The park was good for picnics, visiting historic buildings and following a jogging path.

I'm not a history buff but I love historic homes and buildings. This is a must-see. Unfortunately I went on a Sunday and there were no guided tours. We were able to see the inside of one of the oldest homes so that was great. All the historic homes are incredible to see and to stand on their porches was so neat. Worth a stop by. Cute museum too.

Was just out walking during my stay at the Regency and stumbled across this gem in the heart of the city. Beautiful park with lots of historic buildings. LOVE how you can use your cellphone to access a spoken history of each of the buildings. Park goes on much further than you initially think when you first enter. The ladies at the historical society seem to love their work and gladly will show you around. Great for a pleasant walk through history or just a place to go stretch and relax. Note, it does close down at night, so make sure to come during the day.

We decided to walk around downtown Houston. We loved this historic park. The houses and church are all preserved from the 1800's. The highlight are Sam Houston's dogs. We definitely took pictures there. You walk all around and check out the fountain as well. It's a must visit in downtown Houston. It has beautiful views of the buildings.

The park is a nice place to unwind and spend time as it has a musem on site as well as old houses and churches that you can go up to and look around. It is also a nice place to have a walk around too, located next to the central library

Great place to see historical homes (not mansions) in a near native setting. Combine with trip to the Downtown Houston Tunnels System... do the Park first in the morning, then a treat in the tunnels with shopping, eating, etc.

Green park with houses of different architectural styles in the middle of downtown Houston. It is amazing that such places exist in the middle of busy cities.

It was a great little park only blocks from our hotel in the center of the city. Nice to have green space and history all in one location

We are normally open Thursday-Saturday for tours. Please call ahead to make sure we don't have a school tour booked at the time you would like to come.
