About
In 2011 Messina Hof Hill Country Winery opened its doors in Fredericksburg, the second largest wine tourism destination in the country. Sitting on nearly 10 acres in the heart of Texas wine country along Highway 290, this winery also has its own vineyard. The Lenoir grapes grown at this location go into the making of more traditional style ports.

Underwhelming

The staff was very friendly but the outdoor space/back lawn was underwhelming. The wine was ok. The hummus and spinach artichoke dip came our quick and was great! I would be interested in checking out their home spot in Bryan, TX, this was bare bones since it’s was wine tasting only.

No-show for a purchased virtual wine tasting
Aug. 2020 • Couples
Our family loves to support busniesses effected by COVID closures so we were so excited to be gifted a virtual wine tasting from my stepson for our Fredricksburg trip. After calling and doing a drive up pickup (the winery itself was closed except for orders) we asked if it would be ok to wait until we were back in Dallas to have the tasting. They assured us anytime! Fast forward to us planning a tasting with the three bottles and inviting neighbors over to enjoy it with us. Plans were made, food was purchased. After calling to schedule a time the week before, we were told, "No problem! I'll have someone call you back". We never heard back so we tried again. Called the monday of the tasting, "Yes, we know-we'll call you back" and even calling the day before to the same...We made the best of it by doing a blind tasting and we did enjoy the wine. But the no show on a paid tasting definetly left a bad taste in our mouth. We had two other families/friends that went to Fredricksburg after seeing our posts and our recommendations. (It was a great getwaway for the weekend). I just hope they skiped messina hof.

Great wines, ok experience
Mar. 2020
We stopped in Fredericksburg on our cross country trip primarily to stop at Messina Hof. We had sampled a number of their wines at the Houston Stockyard Show and Rodeo. The atmosphere at the winery was nice but not as nice as others we stopped at in Fredericksburg. Wines were great - we bought a case which included 8 bottles of the Angel Late harvest Reisling. Service was ok - the staff was distracted by the oncoming covid issues. We rate this as highly as we do because the wines were great but the experience was only ok.

A taste of the good life
May 2020 • Couples
We love Messina Hof! They offer delicious wines, jams, and jellies all in tranquil location set amongst the orchards and wineries between Fredericksburg and Johnson City. We stayed overnight in our motorhome through their program with Harvest Hosts. We will definitely be back!

On Level with Napa Valley, CA
Mar. 2020
Have visited many wineries in several states and acknowledge Napa has the greatest number of great ones. Messina Hof is on par with Napa in many areas but excels and surpass others we have visited in one specific area—the token system for tastings is great. Tokens allow a more relaxed and thorough experience without feeling rushed at a counter and trying ton”somewhat quickly” move from one sample to the next. The relaxed atmosphere is greatly enjoyable and highly conducive to purchase what you just experienced. Thank you Messina Hof.

We stopped in to purchase one of our favorites wines, Angel and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The servers were really friendly and there was a lot of activity. Everyone was super relaxed! If you haven’t tried their wine, you’re missing out! The Bonnarigo family sure know how to make great wine!

Great tasting room, friendly people!

We generally do our wine tasting with a passport when offered (usually a 16 day tour $65 for couple 43 wineries to choose from) so we get to many of the wineries in the area. if you are tasting without it - it is a good deal as you can purchase tokens for how many wines you want to try.

We love several of their red wines!

Great wine.

I first went to Messina Hof for a bachelorette weekend this summer, and I've gone back twice since then. Messina Hof has a reasonably priced tasting and generous pours (usually! The last time I went, one of the workers was pouring far less than their famous 2 ounce pours and it put a damper on the fun). They have a fantastic selection of wines, additional snacks you can purchase, and a patio area outside in case you'd like to bring an outside lunch. Definitely recommend it!
