About
Your tour begins at the interpretive signage in the township of Eldorado. Commence a journey of history and adventure with the homes of Joe Byrne and Aaron Sherritt, Ned Kelly stories and ghost towns of the mining era. The Woolshed Valley, believed to be one of Victoria's oldest because of its geological features, begins here in El Dorado and ends near the historic town of Beechworth.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

After visiting the dredge at Eldorado, we drove Woolshed Road to follow Reedy Creek. The signs give excellent information of the times & it is a shame that one board has had some writing scraped off by vandals.
We took our time along this road & were often sped past by inconsiderate locals who do not slow down or move to the left. The drive is still lovely & if you can get down some of the paths there is beautiful river to be seen. Make sure you wear long pants & boots as there are snakes at varying times; we encountered a Brown Snake sunbathing on the granite rocks by the river.
We did the opposite side the following day on McFeeters Road, stopping to pan for very fine gold, but only collecting 3 visible flakes.
A very scenic drive & there are good towns all around the area in which to also visit.

From Beechworth a short way down the Chiltern Rd is Woolshed falls.Visit this first and then take the next rd to Woolshed where back in the day thousands lived.Whole communities sprang up around the gold excitement.Today only scant remains survive but i would think it an a archeoligist or historians delight. The road is half bitumen and half gravel.Dont be afraid to stopa nd explore and drink in the histoy Ian Jones book the fatal friendship(between Aaron Sherritt and Joe Byrne and Ned is great reading and set in the valley.Visit the museum and old dredge at Eldorado and lunch at the pub.A great day out

From Eldorado a well graded dirt road leads up the valley to Woolshed Falls. This is a scenic trip and along there way there are interpretive metal signs. These point out significant places in the area's gold mining and bush ranger past.
Start the tour at the interpretive display near McEnvoy Tavern
You can download a brochure on the drive here:

As a hint when driving look out for the blue marker posts by the side of the road. These indicate where the metal signs are to be found.
