Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a beautiful church and very much a part of Castroville's history. It's not huge but holds gorgeous wood beams, stained glass, statues and altar. There is a shady gazebo on the grounds where you can take a break while touring the town.

We visited and it was good to be able to enter the church. It was beautiful inside. We lit candles, prayed and wrote in visitors book. Please, if you get chance call in, you’ll be amazed. Thanks to well worth the visit.

This church was founded in the 1800's and is absolutely gorgeous! There is an audio inside that describes its history. Beautiful stained glass and sculptures to see.

Staying at a RV resort close to Castroville we could see the steeple from the road and decided to check it out. We enjoyed our short visit. the beautiful windows and rafters, as well as the ornate altar. If you like churches, ( we like to look at different churches/cathedrals etc) this is worth a short visit.

I had a free afternoon while in San Antonio so I decided to drive to Castroville to visit this small historic town. And I was so delighted that I did. There is much to see (homes of German influence etc.) but one stop is truly required, the St Louis Catholic Church.
Both the Catholic Parish and Castroville were founded when Texas was a Republic. Henri Castro crossed the Medina River with his first colonists to found the town on September 3, 1844. Jean Marie Odin, a French priest who was the Vicar Apostolate in Texas and soon named the first Catholic Bishop of Texas, visited the new colony within a week. On September 12, Odin celebrated a Mass on the banks of the Medina River, and proceeded to the designated property to lay the cornerstone for a future church, placing the community under the protection of St. Louis, King Louis IX of France. St. Louis Catholic Church was one of the first ten parishes.
The churches architecture both inside and outside is beautiful. The alter is stunning. The church can hold approximately 450 for services with extra seating in the choir loft. The church can be rented (when available).
The Sacraments offered at St. Louis include Baptism, Reconciliation, Confirmation, Holy Orders, Matrimony, and Communion.
Upon visiting bring your camera for some great photos but remember to show respect during services.
Enjoy…Hope this information was helpful to you, let me know.
Also, read my comments about Castroville as a city, Landmark Inn, Sammy’s Restaurant, and the Steinbach House.

This church is something to see. The interior architecture and woodwork is very nice craftsmanship but the stained glass depictions of the saints are my favorite. My family enjoyed the audio recording of the history also.

Another must-stop if you're in town, even if you're not Catholic. The beams, altar and stained glass windows are beautiful!
Built in 1879, it is in wonderful condition! So glad we stopped!

This church is truly a jewel in Castroville. It was built in 1879 and is in excellent condition. Any kind of refurbishing has not distracted from the beauty of the original. You can spend quite a bit of time just marveling at the beauty and craftsmanship of the windows, statues, altars, etc. The pews are the original and even still have the clips on the back where men were able to hang their hats during the services. I am assuming it is open during most of the day as we had no trouble getting in. As you enter, there is a table to the left, before you enter the main sanctuary, that has a brochure explaining the history and describing various parts of the church.

We had to wait to enter this - probably most well-known - church of many in Castroville because there was a funeral service going on. So we walked around the area to a number of antique shops until we could get in. What a magnificent stain glass windows. Don't miss stopping by as you drive through or to Castroville.

Attended 10:30 Sunday mass while attending wedding of a cousin. The church has beautiful stained glass and the area itself has much history. Pick up a Wilkomme to Castroville publication from the Chamber of Commerce and do a walking tour of the old homes and historic sites of Castroville.
