It's a very large lake formed from the building of a dam decades ago. It's beautiful but can become very frightening on windy days! Boating is recommended and the ducks on the lake look so peaceful.

This is a very good way to see the upper part of Lake Buchanan and the Colorado River.....The trip up the river is spectacular. Dont count on seeing any Eagles as weather conditions must be exactly right in early Winter for them to be in this area.still a great trip.

The drive in the Texas Hill Country to get to Lake Buchanan was quite scenic and offered some nice views of the lake. We took a cruise of a portion of the lake on the Vanishing River Cruise in Burnet, Texas, which was a great way to see it and get details about it. The following is a review of... More

The lake has gorgeous views, the water is so clean and it's so big, you get your very own private beach. The temperature of the water in August is perfect.

The fishing was excellent and the lake is beautiful. The lake is full of bait fish right now and we were able to get on top of the feeding bass which was a lot of fun.

Lake Buchanan is the perfect place for a relaxing weekend or a family trip. Resorts around the lake such as Thunderbird Lodge provide comfortable cabins, a pool and sports areas as well as a fishing guide on the premises. Great location for a laid-back vacation, and fabulous fishing with Stripers and bass!

We attempted to visit Lake Buchanan but found it difficult to access. Most of the property bordering it appears to be private and the small public access area near the dam had little to offer. In general we were disappointed.

Lake Buchanan is much bigger than I realized. It is clean and an asset to the area. I am not a fisherman but understand this is the place to fish. There are lots of accommodations for a pleasant stay.

The lake level is up so it is nice big and clean. It has a lot of area to camp and hike. The fishing seems to be perfect only problem may be getting a line tangled in all the trees that grew up during the drought that are now in the lake. The grounds seem to be well maintained. There... More
