Nice except for all the trash!

Nice size lake in the middle of the desert. We camped at Balmorhea State Park, (which is awesome for a small park), and were looking forward to fishing at Lake Balmorhea. We started at the damn but it was way too windy so we drove around to the south side to find a calmer spot. We found an area with... More

A trip around the lake didn't get to fish the lake was low but still got out with the kids and looked for tracks. We put our feet in the water and enjoyed the western sunset. Something to do in the evening for us and was beautiful.

We just took a drive through to check out the lake after spending the morning at the springs. It didn't seem like a tourist spot, but more like a local, private lake. But, then again, we were there on a freezing weekend in early January-- definitely NOT prime lake weather! We almost felt like we were trespassing on the part... More

This place has potential however it is not well maintained. The roads around the lake were very eroded and washed out. The fees at the front entrance were minimal but not worth it due to the state of the lake. Dirty water and trash throughout the area. We fished through the night and early hours. Not bad fishing, just wish... More

Have to register you vehicle I think $5 not sure. I was a little rainy so we enjoyed the cool weather in hot Texas summer. Because of the rain we looked for tracks and saw plenty of pig tracks most likely havalena. The scenery was beautiful.

The road around the "lake" was full of litter, and all of the parking/pic nic areas were covered in trash. Every trash can was overflowing, and the edge of the lake was lined in trash bags, beer cans, and more. There was nothing to keep us there - i see why they say 'absolutely no refunds' - you don't see... More

So much fun! You do need a $7 wristband for people over 13 years of age but our state park pass covered it. Fun in the sun! Being a canopy to have a shaded spot to put your stuff. FYI no lifeguard on duty.

This lake really stunk bad. Not only did we buy a fishing license for the state of Texas, but you also have to purchase a permit to even be there. There wasn't a beach area, and you cant even get into the lake without shoes on because there are rocks everywhere and it freakin hurts. We didn't stay very long... More

Apparently this is private property. You cant even look at the lake without paying a fee. While camping might seem logical to pay a fee at an Army Corps of Engineers built project, Just driving in to look and admire the scenery seems a bit harsh to drop $5 for a few minutes. It is $7 to enter the nice... More

Requires a permit to access the lake and it's not clear where you can get the permit. We asked the local sheriff and he said these were obtainable from a store at the lake. We visited the lake in the early morning but there was no birds on the lake, so we didn't stay and went elsewhere.
