Free to tour! Takes at least half a day to explore. Excellent exhibits! Must see if your on a budget! Has some clothing from famous musicians. Schools do have field trips here so keep thT in mind if planning a trip!

Love going by there when I can - I work four blocks from the building. Always changing exhibits, sometimes have kid-oriented events (especially in the summer - call to check). Nice and quiet for the most part as are most museums.

Was in Nashville to visit the Hermitage, but also stopped by to check out the TN State Museum. We were thrilled with our decision, as this was a great activity. Wonderful exhibits, with a treasure of information about the history of Tennessee. Would highly recommend,...More

This was on our list of places to visit in Tennessee. Bonus was that it was a free attraction and within walking distance of the Frist Art Museum. Lots of historical facts and great exposure for children and elderly alike. You can spend as little...More

In town on ships business and had time between appointments. With the museum near by walked over and enjoyed the displays. I found the gun smithing tools very interesting and love the old portraits. That was a time before Eastman and in expensive photography. The...More

This museum is very quiet, probably because the entrance is not well advertised and you can walk past without noticing it at all. A shame, because it is a very interesting museum, tracing the history of the state of Tennesee way, way back before the...More

This extensive and well curated history museum is amazing, and since its FREE, its the best deal in town. The museum covers over 10000 years of the history of the region, but does an especially great job of explaining how the people and places of...More

A free wonderful museum thanks to the government. Three very large floors, jam-packed with historical artifacts. Focused on Tennessee's history, people and cultures, discover how they get to have a real Egyptian mummy. It's best to choose some areas to focus on, and come back...More

Also, there may be parking spots available at at the Bicentennial State Park which is few blocks away. Nashville has a free bright green bus that you can pick up near there and it will take you uptown.
