The Hermitage, Home of President Andrew Jackson, is one of the largest and most visited presidential homes in the United States, and recently named the #1 historic house in Tennessee. Today, The Hermitage is a 1,120-acre National Historic Landmark with over 30 historic buildings, that welcomes some 200,000 annual visitors, including 30,000 schoolchildren, from all 50 states and many foreign countries. We skipped the museum portion and got the handsets to listen to. We tried to listen to each portion. It has a child version, Mrs Jackson, then the Pres Jackson portion in case you have limited time. We waited about 90 minutes in line to...More

If you do not know much about Andrew Jackson, you will when you have completed the tour. Our wait time to start the tour was less than 15 minutes, but we were there by 10. The docents were very informative in description of the house...More

We got so involved with the excitement of downtown Nashville that we almost missed the opportunity to visit the home of Andrew Jackson. The tour of the home was well done and we learned a lot about Jackson, his life, his presidency, and the times...More

I admittedly knew nearly nothing about Andrew Jackson before visiting so choosing to spend my "touristing time" here instead of at the many other places to visit in Nashville was a bit of a leap of faith. I'm glad I chose The Hermitage. The combination...More

We only took the general admission, but the audio machine you can use for a self guided tour was sufficient in my opinion.

They sell beverages at several locations so no need to pack your own. The length of the walk is up to you. For just the house and gardens probably less than 1 1/4 miles. Is tour all of the hounds maybe 3 miles?
