Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This lake on the Murray is impressive. Driving around goes you an idea of the size of the lake. A cruise on the lake gives you lots of historical detail about the area. It is rather an eerie sight late in the afternoon with all the dead trees standing in the water.

The twin towns are built around the lovely Lake Mulwala that is very popular with various groups. Even better if you have accomodation right on lake. On outskirts of town is the excellent free camping at Kyffins Reserve

Enjoyed our family afternoon on Yarrawonga shoreline of Lake Mulwala at YMCA-run water play park. Kids had a dozen or so water slides, swam the rectangular jetty end to end and dried out later on playground. Cafe nearby Lake a beautiful backdrop.

Drive out towards Corowa until you come across a boardwalk on your right side. Go early morning or an hour before sunset if the weather is calm. Great place to get photos of the lakes sunken forest and listen to the variety of bird life.

One of the things that catch your attention as you drive towards this large lake is the number of dead tree trucks sticking out of the lake. A reminder that this lake is man made there is a stark beauty to the view. A large number of places to stop and view the lake as well as some great picnic spots.

We were initially disappointed that the lake was being drained before our planned visit, but once we saw it we realized how spectacular it was. It is well worth visiting just to see the lake empty as it took on a Moon-scape appearance. We also learned more about the lake formation history from locals and it was amazing to see the trees and stumps that exist under the water when the lake is full.

My wife and I stayed in a one bedroom apartment with a large balcony at the Sebel Resort for 3 nights, during our recent holiday in Yarrawonga.
The balcony had a panaromic view over Lake Mulwalla. We went walking along the Boardwalk at the Resort towards the town centre, along the banks of Lake Mulwalla.
We also took a Boat Cruise on board P.S. Cumberoona to see many parts of Lake Mulwalla.
Apart from that, we also drove to Mulwalla in NSW to see the lake from that side of the border.

Lake Mulwala was formed by damming the Murray and flooding the adjacent countryside. Flooded trees have subsequently died creating a beautiful yet eerie landscape. Lots of walks, water sports and wildlife around the lake. Worth a visit if you are in the area.

Clean. Quiet. Serene. Well maintained. Many birds and beasts. Lovely place to go for a walk, moreso on a morning.

Is the Lake ok for swimming?
Written 9 March 2018
Yes, but caution should taken the lake is part of the Murray River and has a weir at the western end, it is also full of dead trees , check the weir if water is flowing over then there will be strong undercurrents. There is a new water slide playground on the Victorian side. It is also used for water skiing, and fishing boats, also a paddle steamer does cruises. Remember the Murray River claims many lives each year due to strong undercurrents and submerged logs
