This is an excursion I have wanted to take for years now so with a bit of time on our hands it seemed like a good opportunity. Blue Lotus Water Gardens is a seasonal gardens display which is open from 26 December to 21 April each year, there are two flower seasons each season. The first is the ‘Lotus Flower Season’ which runs from 26 December to 20 March and the second is the ‘Autumn Flower Season’ which runs from 21 March to 21 April. The gardens are located on Warburton Highway in Yarra Junction, Victoria and our visit was through the ‘Lotus Flower Season’. On entering the gardens you are handed a very easy to follow map and there is lots of signage to help you find your way around. There are 14 acres of water gardens with thousands of blooms of different colours and shapes, with five highlighted specific areas for the Lotus season it was easy to get around all of them in two hours. The entry prices were good at $26 adults, $23 seniors and children to 15 years free, the pathways are very easy to walk around being flat with just a few gentle rises but if you need it you can book a wheelchair. There are buckets of courtesy umbrellas at the entry and plenty of seating around the walking tracks which are usually under shelter, it was 32 degrees yesterday but it was easy to keep out of the worst of the heat. The gardens cater for everyone with children’s playgrounds, picnic areas, a kiosk, a garden cafe, a gift shop and a nursery. After driving two hours to get here it was felt it was well worth the time, some of our family caught up with us with only added to the enjoyment of the day.

A friend had recently visited so we thought we would head off to see ‘the blue lotus’ for ourselves and we were pleasantly surprised. There is an admission fee which may seem steep but when you see how much work has to be put in to keep this property functioning, expanding and improving, it is worth every cent. We happily walked around the river walk weaving our way throughout the various areas as we didn’t want to miss anything. It is very pretty, peaceful and calming. They had numerous picnic tables and even bbq’s throughout the property and play areas for kids making it a great place to spend 1/2 a day with the family. Well done and we are so glad we made the trip to come and see this beauty. We will return.

To view the gardens you pay $20 per person entry. Upon entry there is a nursery where you may purchase water lilies and lotus plants. You pass a gift shop and a cafe/eatery before entering the gardens proper. I note that the cost of food is rather high - a fruit juice (made fresh for you) costs $9.00. Entering the gardens there are well marked paths and signs pointing to places of interest, lotus and lilies of interest, ponds etc . You are also provided with a map of the gardens so that you are able to see everything that is available.
The paths are sandy, and when we were there it had rained quite a bit the day before. Some parts were therefore damp and squelchy under foot. I note there were wheelchair patrons, however in some places it would be hard going. Animals are not allowed, but exception is made for Guide and Assistance Dogs.
The walk takes approximately 1-2 hours, depending on whether you want to sit and enjoy the views of lotus lakes, or just truck on through.
Due to the humid conditions for the past couple of months, many of the flowers were out and the display was beautiful. Professional and amateur photographers were everywhere and no doubt had good success! The Amazon Lily pads are stunning, along with many of the flower beds surrounding the dams covered in lotus flowers and lillies.
My only negative is the entry price - $20 per person was overpriced. I paid $10 to visit Alowyn Gardens and felt I had received a better deal there.

My wife and I visited this place a few days ago, as part of our holiday in Mount Dandenong where we stayed for two nights in a holiday cottage.
This was our second visit, as we were here two years ago. We enjoyed our previous visit so much that we wanted to visit again.
The collection of plants and the design of the Gardens are magnificent. We were here at 10 am on a Wednesday morning when it was not crowded, which made it more pleasant for walking across the whole place.

My wife and I visited this place on a Wednesday morning at 10 am. There were very few visitors and we were alone for most of the time during our walk across the entire Garden. Excellent for social distancing.
Blue Lotus Water Garden spans over 50,000 square meters, with dozens of ponds, two lakes, several fountains and walking tracks.
It features the Giant Amazon Waterlilies, Kakadu Lagoon Native Waterlily display, Tropical World complex, Claude Monet Waterlily display, Monet's Lake Bridge Walk, Lotus Lake, Lotus Wetlands, Golden Lotus display, Little Yarra River Trail, Flower Fairy Garden, Monet's Rotunda and much more.
We brought our own lunch and coffee from home and had our lunch at one of the many tables and benches that has undercover from the sun. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this spectacular place.

This a a very quaint and enjoyable place to visit. Away from the hussle and bussle of city life, you can loose yourself in the tranquility of the gardens as you wonder around observing all the wonderful kinds of lotus flowers. Best to go in the early months of the year as that's when most of the flowers are in full bloom from January to March on a nice summers day.
There's also places to have a picnic, a cafe and even a barbeque, great for kids as well as they offer a small play area and a story sessions read by a fairy. They also offer a variety of plants for sale and a very small gift shop.
A great day out!

This garden is unique and well worth the drive from Melbourne. It can be combined with a visit to nearby Warburton which is a lovely destination in its own right. In the garden you are treated to an extensive network of patches, through small lakes filled with flowering lilies and lotus flowers. You can get up close to admire the detail and also enjoy the broader views from the seats in small sun shelters that are placed along the paths. The large Amazon lily pads are a must see. The gardens are good for kids with crocodiles and dragon replicas to see. There are picnic tables in a cafe area for eating. You can easily spend a couple of hours here, walking around the gardens Entry prices are reasonable. The only let down for us was the food. Generous servings but not great quality. Despite this, a visit is highly recommended.

Blue lotus water lily park was amazing. We spent almost half a day admiring the blooms and enjoyed their snacks at the outlet. It was a rare experience to see so many species of water lilies in bloom and many other water plants on display. Some had crazy colours and petal arrangements. It was a day well spent.

Wow, what a wee gem. We went on a wet day but we were still able to walk around without puddles etc bogging us down. Paths are great for all mobility types including prams and wheelchairs. Beautifully well set out ponds with just stunning flowers. Great explanations on the plants. A must to view.

Yarra Junction or Warburton would be the closest town locations. Beautiful beside the Yarra River.

Hi There.
Im thinking of taking the family there in early October. Would it be nice then with many blossomed flowers?
Written 6 September 2017
Lotus flowering season is late Dec to early April. As such the garden is only open at this time. Visit their website to get the details. Feb is probably the best time as it is warmer and most lotus have bloomed by then. After this - you might see more seed pods than blooms! Visit earlier in the day for less crowds.

I'm hoping to visit next week with elderly frail mother. Do you have wheelchair to hire?
Written 27 October 2016
visited today with my elderly mother. We got a wheelchair from the front desk (no charge, but suggest you book before arrival in case they are all loaned out)...
The Main Trail is mostly compressed gravel but an easy push in the wheelchair.. some steep grades / sections at times but they can be avoided.

Written 17 September 2016
Yes you can catch the Lilydale line train to end of line ( Lilydale) then catch the Warburton bus from station, make sure you check time tables though because not very frequent, worth the effort tho

Hi, we don't have as many lotus flowers, however the giant lily looks great and so does the garden in general. We close for winter at 4pm on Sunday the 3rd.

I note that you don't allow dogs on leashes unless they are qualified guide dogs. Is this a blanket rule with no exceptions? I understand why you must have such a rule (mainly because people don't respond well to being asked to pick up after their dogs, etc). My reason for asking is that my wife and I have been qualified Dog Trainers for the past 43 years, and we currently train about 40 dogs per week in formal classes. Our own dog is a sooky German Shepherd about 3 years old, who absolutely frets if she is left any further away than a bum-print from her owner. She is a party-girl, everyone's friend, doesn't mind "on leash" and comes with us everywhere. Your "blanket rule" simply means that we visit other places than your establishment.

Hi Greg, unfortunately we don't allow any dogs or animals in the garden or carpark due to our insurance policy. The exception is guide dogs.
