Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There are 7 themed areas that are well-maintained. The gardens had an enforced rest for a few months until reopening at the start of November 2020. Management strongly encourages bookings due to Covid restrictions. There is a couple of hectares to wander around... Certainly well spaced for a max. of 30 people! A diversity of plants, ponds, scattered sculptures and artefacts.
The plant nurdery and garden shop are open for browsing. Unfortunately, the cafe is currently closed. Take-away coffee is a poor substitute to outdoor lifestyle... and picknicking is also banned until further notice. Hopefully, these niceties will be back soon.

We like gardens so happy to pay entry fee but at $15 a person, it is not cheap. Also they are not keeping up with the gardens being maintained - weeds in some places, some hedges that need clipping and some obvious neglect.
Separately, it is not their fault but there was water on some paths after rain the previous day which meant we couldn't see it all. My advice: Best to come after a few days of dry weather.

I can’t rave about this garden to enough people as it was that enjoyable. The entry fee was well justified given the extensive acres the garden was sprawled across and man hours to keep it in such good condition. If you were looking for inspiration to takeaway and apply at home this garden would have something for you as it was that diverse. Lovely shop and cafe just top off the whole experience. Staff were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. If you are in the area you must go.

Brilliant day! Despite it being hot, there were so many areas that were beautifully shaded along the way with plenty of seating scattered throughout.
I’m limited physically, but managed to walk the entire 7 acres, stopping for rests at the various little oasis’s as we went.
We took our own sandwiches and ate them in the gardens ( plenty of picnic tables) , then stopped at the lovely courtyard cafe for coffee and cake at the end of our day.
Very reasonably priced for both our afternoon tea and the plants that we purchased too ( plants that I had been looking for ages elsewhere and hadn’t been able to find).
Perfect de stress activity and so much to see.

There was so much to see at the Alowyn Botanical Park that I did not feel the time pass by. Knots garden was a splendid attraction with perfectly topiard short hedges. The mini-Japanese garden “Tsuboniwa” was eye catching. So as the formal gardens with water features. I liked the garden ornamentation they have used balancing them well with the landscape design. There was so much more to see in vegetable gardens and typical English cottage garden styles. I loved this place!

My wife and I visited these Gardens recently during our holiday in Yarra Valley. We stayed at Yarra Valley Grand Hotel, which is just a few kilometers from here.
In recent months, we have been visiting several gardens in Regional Victoria and we plan to visit a few more over the next few months.
These gardens are delightful to visit and we enjoyed looking at the design and displays including the offerings in the nursery. The Autumn Harvest displays were very nice. We walked across every part of the Gardens. We might return in mid October when the Wisteria are in bloom.

Alowyn Gardens is an absolute jewel of the Yarra Valley no matter what time of year. All the gardens have their own theme, all tranquil and for any plant lover a real delight with so much to see and learn. The owners Prue and John are wonderful people, always a joy to talk to who are happy to share their knowledge of this beautiful place.

On our way home we decided to call in to Alowyn Gardens without having any expectations. Had never heard of it and just wanted something to do on an extremely hot day.
This is the best garden that we have every had the chance to visit. We've been to all the Diggers Club gardens and been to many private open gardens. Nothing comes close to the beauty and presentation of Alowyn.

Extremely rude staff. We were loudly “ejected” for having our very small, old and docile dog on a lead - after being confronted by management’s poorly socialised and aggressive dog. We were loudly told, in front of a number of onlookers, there was a “sign on the gate!” Very poor customer relations. We abandoned our plans to visit the garden and will never return.

We love this place. It’s big with different beautiful gardens, you will need to spend couple of hours here. It’s a great spot for families or those who love nature and gardening. The nursery is also fantastic with a good range of orchids, citrus tree to native, indoor and outdoor plants. Extremely friendly staffs.
