So glad we took the time
We had John who also runs the tours alongside Greg, exceptional story and he painted it well, really fascinating & enthralling history to the township & some of the colourful characters that Greg has uncovered. So glad we took the time instead of easily passing it by - however it came highly recommended. Definitely worth doing and finishing with some Gumtree pies.

    Go visit Karr's Reef Goldmine!
A visit to Karr's Reef Goldmine is an exceptional experience, filled with amazing scenery on the way up to the mine via Yackandandah, the whole afternoon was a joy. Our guide John, has the history of the place flowing through him, his passion and his delivery of the tales of the town of Yackandandah during the gold rush are first class. He captivated me and gave me great mental pictures of what would have been happening in the places we visited along the way to mine site. The drive through the bush is beautiful. When we arrived at the mine site John opened the mine and gave a us detailed safety briefing on what we needed to keep in mind and also how to ensure we as visitors looked after the mine when we were inside. Once inside the mine John continued with his fascinating description about what happened there, the people who were the main characters in the story and also answered all our questions. We had plenty of time to explore the mine and really soak it all in. I was with my 11 year old daughter and she said after it was the highlight of her trip. This is a fantastically run tour and I highly recommend a trip to Yackandandah to visit Karr's Reef Goldmine.

    Gold mining history in Victoria.
This is a unique tour and well worth the time. Greg is a fountain of information on local history as it relates to gold mining here in the 19 th century. The drive to the mine is the opportunity to give you the basic history and prepare you for the actual mine tour. The mine itself is a wonder of early industrial engineering and craft brought by the Cornish miners along with their basis knowledge of practical geology. This is a first class experience..

Greg is an absolute gem! One of a kind in a town with a long history. This is a must do if you are I. The area. We were captivated by his history of the area and the shenanigans that went on during the rush!

This is a wonderful, immersive and utterly fascinating local history tour, complete with a short 4 wheel drive trek to time spent underground in a long-abandoned goldmine at one of the faultlines of the world.

The tour's host, Greg, is passionate and engaging and boy does he know his stuff. His storytelling along the route is engaging, entertaining, and weaves together the history of the mine and the local goldrush, longer timeframes that capture something of Indigenous connection to the land, the geological timelines which formed the reef, as well as his own personal history.

I won't spoil any details of these stories, except to say that Greg's own story (and his David-and-Goliath-esque struggle to uncover, restore, and preserve the mine site) is worthy of its own documentary.

Honestly, three hours just flew by and I would happily do this tour again just to relive the experience.

Greg was full of great stories regarding the history of yakandandah and the mine. The mine was very interesting to see and listen to Greg explaining about how it came to be there. Well worth the $30 per person for the tour. Cash required

From start to finish this was a fascinating history of the 1800 gold rush era. The story is passionately presented by Greg and culminates in his amazing mine. The mine was hand cut into a hill to reach the quartz and gold reef on a tectonic plate. Greg's passion and research on this topic is second to none. This is a must do if visiting this area.
