About
Scion is a producer of artisan wines, handcrafted from vine to bottle. Our vision is to produce premium wines guided by the creative and modern interpretation of traditional Rutherglen varietals. We grow and handcraft wines in small batches – from aromatic whites to elegant reds and delicate dessert wines. Located just 2km south of Rutherglen on our estate vineyard, Scion’s cellar door is nestled in the natural landscape among grey box gums. Visit to taste our focused range of artisan wines, or BYO picnic to enjoy with a glass overlooking the countryside and working winery. A sustainable future underscores our vision, from the use of solar power to run our winery and cellar door, to a small cluster of beehives enhancing biodiversity on our farm.

We were attracted to Scion by their Sustainable reputation and only time to visit one Vineyard and we were not disappointed
Firstly Elisha was the perfect host with a terrific knowledge of the Scion range and an engaging manner!!
The wines were all very nice but for me the Reds were to my liking 😊😊
Do yourself a favour and make a visit and taste some great wine

Today we had a tasting experience at scion winery. From the start the person providing the tastings was very experienced in the wines provided & explained everything fully. Another Rutherglen experience

What a fabulous tasting experience! This new establishment in Rutherglen is doing it well. Beautiful environment really interesting wines and the lovely Alisha was so knowledgeable and passionate. Thank you so much for the experience we are telling all our friends to visit.

I have to thank this winery for expanding my education!
If I had known they use primarily Durif I may not have visited & that would have been a great loss. I only knew Durif as found in really heavy red wines which are not to my taste.
But boy what they do at Scion is remarkable. The tasting is $10pp but well worth it & redeemable on purchase of 3 bottles. I can honestly say that I liked every one of their wines & we bought a lot more than 3 bottles!
Do yourself a favour & don't miss a visit to Scion.

Having visited various wineries in Rutherglen and Milawa over the last two days, including Campbells, All Saints and Brown Brothers, good wine and service at most but only one was great, Scion Wines. The unique wines, friendly and extremely knowledgeable service made Scion the standout. Who knew Durif was so versatile.

Scion Wine aims to add a modern twist to the traditional Rutherglen grape varieties. This boutique winery is just 2km south of the town of Rutherglen. Scion produces reds, roses, whites and dessert wines. Visitors are welcome to bring a picnic lunch. By the way, dogs on leash are welcome. There is a $10 tasting fee.

Was honestly really disappointed by our experience. We called in advance and were told that the wines were vegan friendly. However, halfway through the tasting we were told that the reds were in fact fined with egg whites. At this point we had drunk one of the red wines. We skipped the last 4 wines were both still charged the full amount for the tasting ($10pp each). We felt that we were misled into doing the tasting and if we had known half the wines were not vegan we definitely wouldn’t have agreed to a full $10 tasting.

We're sorry to learn of the miscommunication and that you were served a tasting of a red fined with egg whites counter to your dietary requirements. We are a small team passionate about hospitality and I can vouch that this would have been a genuine human error.
In fact most of our wines are vegan friendly, with the exception of two reds at the time of your tasting from a list of eight wines.
Yes we have a $10pp tasting fee and this represents not just the wine poured, but the hosted experience (generally a 45 minute hosted tasting), beautiful glassware and so on.
Again, we're sorry about this human error made on the day in serving you one of the only two wines on the list that are not vegan.
We hope you enjoyed the rest of your Rutherglen getaway.

Small and friendly winery in beautiful setting just outside town. Very innovative selection of wines, all of good quality. Highlights are the After Dark and Muscat X.
