Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lighthouses are always a cool place to visit, and a reminder of a time gone by. Tours are on offer here and a worth a look!

the tour of the lighthouse is a must. The guide was informative and explained the place of the lighthouse in history and maritime navigation. If you visit Point Lonsdale and Queenscliffe you will notice the lighthouses and wonder what is their function. There is a great view from the top (100 plus stairs to climb) Free entrance to Queenscliff Maritime museum as part of the entrance so good value also

Usually open on a Sunday but if you book a couple of weeks ahead through the Maritime Museum in Queenscliff a tour can be arranged without any fuss. Tour guide we had, June, was fantastic. She gave us just the right amount on interesting information to make a perfect half hour tour. Its amazing to understand the history of the problems ships have had over the years ( and still do) entering and leaving Port Phillip Bay. If your group is bigger than 8 make a few consecutive tours and enjoy a walk around the point and a coffee in Point Lonsdale township before or after your tour. Makes for a great afternoon. Cost is very reasonable $10 per person or $8pp if in a group.

We walked along the PL beach to the Lighthouse each morning of our holiday and it was a great, relaxing way to start the day.

Views are stunning, particularly if a ship is going through the Heads.

This is a lovely lighthouse at the end of the point. Good carparking and toilet facilities at the bottom. Wheelchair accessible to the lighthouse. Views are wonderful from down the coast to the west or out to ‘the heads’ and back towards Melbourne.
Please read the signs as there is a lot to be careful
Of such as the unstable cliffs.
You can do tours here on special days so check out my photos to see when (during holiday periods).
No food or refreshments here so bring your own.

Situated on the coastline a short drive out of Geelong City this lighthouse is a reminder of the beginnings of the ports of Geelong and Melbourne and the dangerous passage for ships through the narrow entrance into Port Phillip Bay. We witnessed a cargo ship leaving Melbourne and making its way out of the bay past Point Lonsdale lighthouse accompanied by a pilot boat ready to pick up their local driver specialised in stearing ships out of the bay into ocean waters away from the dangers of reefs of the area. There is plenty of areas to fish on the wharf which is equipped with fishing rod holders, rulers to measure your catch and covered seating. Plenty of parking and ease of access but is only open for tours on Sunday. Well worth seeing

Visited on Monday 19th February. Parked the car nearby and went for a look at the Lighthouse, it is a working lighthouse and not open to the public. There are walking tracks as well where you can go exploring the coastline.

If it's your first visit to the lighthouse and the area, as it was for me, it's worth going on a Sunday morning (between 9am to 1pm) and signing up for a guided tour of the lighthouse run by volunteers of the Queenscliff Maritime Museum.
It was a great half hour tour, and having learnt about The Rip and significance of the area made the view all that more enjoyable.

Great little walk along the pier, which is also a great place to photograph the lighthouse.
