About
The Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden is Victoria's premier cool-climate garden. With breathtaking views over the Yarra Valley, the garden features important collections of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and more, in a setting of native and exotic trees. Seasonal changes ensure the garden is a year-round delight. Meander down to Serenity Point where the sculpted landscape opens to stunning views. A network of paths criss-cross the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden and highlight the ever-changing seasonal landscape. Bring a picnic basket and set up on one of the lawns within the gardens for a scenic day out. Ride the 'Garden Explorer' - a fee-for-service people mover which provides a 25-minute guided tour of the garden.

Worth walking for

The Dandenong Ranges Botanical Gardens are in a cool climate area. Olindas is in the hills near Melbourne. The gardens are best visited in Spring. Flowers that bloom are camelias, rhododendrons and azelias, among others.. You can also get some good views from the gardens. Olinda also hosts the veteran steam train, Puffing Billy.

Not happy!
Jan. 2021
I arrived expecting an open-air bus ride around the gardens to be available as advertised on their website, only to be told it wasn't running due to COVID. That's understandable, but in that case, update your bloody website so people don't travel to experience it under false pretenses! Also, clean your toilets. The ladies were an absolute disgrace.

OMG! Beautiful!!!!!
Nov. 2020
Worth the trip to see this stunning botanic garden. We went at the end of the rhododendrons blooming, and it was still gorgeous! We noticed many cherry trees, so we will definitely go back in the Spring to see these bloom. And of course I have already put this lovely garden on my calendar for October next year to see the azaleas and rhododendrons blooming.

Beautiful time of year

Even though it’s cold it’s a fabulous time of year to come visit the gardens - changing leaves and colour schemes and spooky misty mornings make for awesome photos

Cold -Climate Garden In Dandenongs
Jun. 2020
This is one of the nicest gardens around and covers some 36 HA at the back of Olinda with sweeping views of the Yarra Valley from Serenity Point. Apart for the extensive plantings of rhododendrons, camellia's and azaleas there is a large plantation of Japanese Cherry trees, the area opened by the prior Emperor of Japan, Akihito (now retired). Go in spring or autumn for the best flowers and colors.

Favorite part of a Victoria Day tour
Feb. 2019
I joined some friends on a day tour that went all over Melbourne's surroundings and, while the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden wasn't a main attraction, we did take about an hour to stop here. The grounds are expansive and walking through them, there's an experiential arc so much so that I felt I had gained understanding of the flora of Victoria.

Beautiful and Serene
Dec. 2019
It appears to be now known as the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden. All the signage at the gardens said this.

A picturesque drive from Melbourne to the gardens. Lots of parking and the gardens are beautiful. Went there on a weekend and it wasn't too busy. There is no cost to visit the gardens.

There are various walks you can do around the gardens. It is quite hilly so be prepared to walk up and down a bit. Although there during a hot summer there was still lot of beauty around. We also saw deer and parrots which was lovely.

The cafe served good coffee but we didn't have any food so can't comment on it. We found all the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Would be nice to visit again during the other seasons.
