- SuseBathurst, Australia46 contributionsHeavenly!Heavenly place. My husband and I visited here today after a 10 hour driving trip from NSW and an emotional weekend after putting our beautiful dog to sleep due to ill health. We arrived here and were greeted by a lovely woman who had a chat with us and checked we had all we needed. I ended up buying some seeds and signing up to the Diggers Club. When she’d realised we’d come all the way from NSW she let us in to garden for a stroll around free of charge. We were both amazed by the beauty of it. We then went to Seasons Restaurant where I had the best chai latte of my life and they made an exception for us and made us 2 of the breakfast dishes even though it was past the time for breakfast to have finished. Thanks for helping us have such a beautiful and peaceful morning together. We’ll definitely come back if we’re back in the area.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 February 2024

These Gardens are very well maintained and are well presented. We were here at 10 am (opening time) on a Thursday morning and were the only visitors throughout our visit for just over an hour. The wind chimes at the Bonsai enclosure are the best sounding ones that we have ever come across. After our visit, we went over to Olinda Tea House across the road for lunch. Recently dined at "Cloudhill" at the restaurant on a recommendation, and as always do, perused the menu online before booking, but disappointingly on arrival discovered that the menu had been changed but not updated online. To say that is misleading trading is only the nice way to say how our group felt. The new menu appeared to offer less variety than quoted online and had we known, probably would have negated our selection of this venue. However the food was really good and on that score would have to recommend.

Although the cost of $10 per adult sounds a little steep the gardens are magnificent and you can take a picnic In with you. The place has aged well since out last visit over 10 years ago. Well worth a wander

On a coolish day we sat outside. The waitress brought us blankets and looked after us very well. One of us had king salmon with delicious rosti and hummus, the other had a hamburger served with small bucket of chips...all delicious. We need to support restaurants such as this which provide very good food and service. The gardens and Diggers Club shop are an added bonus.

The gardens are lovely, with lots of variety. The store has a large selection of seeds and other garden supplies. The nursery plants did look a bit droopy and not as good quality as I have seen in other nursery, and the there was quite a wait in the cafe for just cake and tea.
Overall, a lovely garden with lots of places to explore.

Every time it's an absolute privilege to wander around this piece of paradise. Pleased to see that some of the more intrusive sculptures have been removed. If you hesitate visiting because it's winter, do go! So much to enjoy, the snowdrops below the maples and the beech, daffodils, the delicate lace of the deciduous trees and the died-off plants, little pods of green starting to push up everywhere, the kitchen garden full of plant life already

Love this place. The staff are friendly, the food is seriously good and the Gardens are so very pretty. We went in early April. Each of us really enjoyed our lunch and there is also good selection of local wines to choose from. We wanted to walk around the gardens and come back for dessert and the staff were very accommodating and reserved a table for us. We spent about an hour in the gardens and came back for coffee and cake. Certainly a very indulgent afternoon :)

Does anyone know if there has Uber drivers in Olinda town?

We visited a year ago and took our dogs who were very welcome. We sat outside at the cafe, the waitress bought us rugs for our knees and we had a beautiful coffee before strolling through the gardens.

Are there any caravan parks nearby? Does a pensioner concession apply to the entry to cloudehill?
Written 31 January 2015
I live at the foot of the mountain and cannot think of a caravan park that would suit, although many B&Bs in close proximity at various prices. Mt Dandenong is best suited to day tripping and Cloudehill is great for lunch and a walk - quite steep in places tho' with steps, so not suited to those with walking difficulties. However, from restaurant, the view is superb.
