Seems to be the poor cousin to the other gardens in terms of maintenance. Features a steep asphalt winding path that takes you past a varied array of European and North American mature trees. At the bottom at the stairwell you should turn left and walk the Fern Glade loop that is like a different world.

We were the only visitors here compared to other gardens that were packed.

TIPS: dogs allowed on leash

My wife and I visited this Garden during our holiday in Mount Dandenong where we stayed for two nights in a holiday cottage.

We had already been to the other more popular gardens in Mount Dandenong during our previous holiday last year.

During our visit in this Garden, we were the only visitors, as it was mid week off peak season.

We enjoyed walking across the entire garden and liked the fact that there were no other visitors.

I visited on a weekday afternoon in early Autumn on a bright but cool day. I was the only visitor during the hour or so I wandered the pathways. Too many spots along the paths were overgrown and barely passable - foliage or branches had to be pushed aside to get by. Yes, it's autumn so there's leaf litter everywhere but there was also other detritus covering the gravel paths and giving the impression that the gardens were somewhat abandoned. The delightful stone walling showed signs of damage and lack of maintenance with sections fallen away etc. I hope this was just a low point in the yearly maintenance cycle and doesn't indicate a downward trend for these gardens.

The pathways are quite steep in parts and there's no avoiding descending and ascending as you explore the grounds. The autumn tints weren't really evident yet when I visited, just a few maples showing some red colour, but the walk was pleasant.

Compared to the other Dandenong Ranges gardens, this garden generally has far fewer people, ample parking, and is pretty quiet. It is spectacular in autumn (with some colourful trees not present in the other gardens), has a variety of flowers in late spring, and the rest of the year is just a pleasant and quiet place to wander, with interesting stone walls, terraced paths, and a fern gully.

As with all Dandenong Ranges gardens, just be aware that it is steep, and can be a long way down to climb back up again.

Lovely gardens, very pretty. Lovely place to have a picnic! Was quite hard walking back up the hill in the humidity and heat though.

The thing that makes this stand out from other gardens in area is (during my visit) the lack of crowds compared to the other gardens in area. stunning gardens without crowds

The Canadian maples are beyond amazing here.....it's an absolute jewel box in autumn, with the many tree species throwing up leaves when they turn orange, red, scarlet, purple, yellow and brown. A must for your camera or paint box! You can have a very decent walk, up and down dale here, too.

When we visited in early November we had missed the best of the Rhododendron colour but we enjoyed the beautiful trees and tree ferns. it is a very steep garden so you want to be fit to enjoy it!

What a wonderful discovery - it's like walking into a secret garden - quite well maintained but not a soul in sight. The Ansells, the original owners, created an incredible park with a number of gently sloping paths that take you down into a gully, and back again to the car park. It's not opulent or flamboyant as is sometimes the case when money creates a garden - Pirianda comes across as a fairly personal reflection of an intense interest of landscape and design. The Ansell home, considering the success of the family business is a very modest affair, and I was charmed by the humble galley-style kitchen that could be seen through the window. We were lucky enough to stumble across a lyre bird, and the tree ferns, were spectacular. It would be a beautiful place to visit at any time of the year.

A quiet but pretty steep garden, not as well looked after as most in the Dandenongs. That's not a bad thing though is you like your gardens with a wilder feel.

I was the only one there for at least 2 hours.

Highly rated.
