About
The Mornington Botanical Rose Garden is situated in Civic Reserve on the corner of Dunns and Mornington-Tyabb Road, Mornington and is nestled between the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery and the community based Oakhill Gallery. The garden has over 4000 roses planted in 86 beds and is surrounded by a border of native Australian trees and shrubs. It was built and is maintained by volunteers, generous sponsor donations and the support of Mornington Peninsula Shire Council. The Mornington Rose Garden is open seven days a week and admission is free. However, Gold Coin donations are welcome and will contribute to the maintenance of the Rose Garden. A feature of the garden is a rotunda situated in front of the entrance colonnade, the rotunda provides an appealing area to relax and enjoy the vista of roses with the colour combinations set on an artist’s palette. It has become a very popular venue for wedding ceremonies, proposals and other significant celebrations.

The Mornington Botanical Rose Garden comes to bloom in spring, with a great floral display. Apart from the many hundreds of rose bushes, there is a lake and a pavilion. The rose bushes come in a great variety. It's a great place to spend some relaxing time.

If you like your roses, it is a lovely short walk, looking at a variety of different roses. You can enjoy a nice picnic in the gardens, and then visit the two art galleries, and for the kids a playground, all with in walking distance from the rose gardens.

The volunteers that work on this garden ( all of 4 acres and 4,000 roses ) should be so proud , it really is a credit to their dedication and skill . Particularly when the roses are in full bloom it's the most amazing place to visit . I would highly recommend .

The extensive display of roses is fantastic.

We were a bit late visiting during the second week of Mrch, however the blooms that had not turned were outstanding and we'd recommend it to all visitors to the Mornington Peninsula.

If you love roses, there are french Delbards, English David Austins and some great Australian roses. Make sure your nose is clear for some serious sniffing! It's a lovely stroll, and there are places to sit to read a book. Also the entry is free :)

A free attraction located next to two galleries, this makes a nice setting for a rest stop. There are lots of rose varieties on show, all sponsored by local businesses or families, so if you're a gardening fan this will probably be of interest - or just stop and take some pictures in a photogenic setting.

A group of friends went to the Mornington Peninsula Art Gallery next door and was delighted to visit the gorgeous rose garden. So beautifully tended and tidy. All the roses were in full bloom and the colours were sensational. What a beautiful vista with large sculptures in the garden and a huge rotunda in the centre. Well worth a visit with many of the roses so fragrant and gorgeous. Congratulations to all the volunteers.

If you leave Melbourne before.9.30am, this is a good place to spend an hour or more before lunch. Entry is free and at the right time of year, the rose gardens are beautiful and well maintained. I took some overseas visitors here yesterday (mid-October) and they loved it. About half of the roses were blooming so perhaps November onwards would be a better time to visit if you want to see the gardens in full bloom. As I have recently been involved in rose gardening, I was very interested to see the many different varieties, all clearly labelled. There were some varieties, such as the climbing rose "Fourth of July" that looked so unlike roses as I know them (unusual shape of petals) but very much like fireworks, hence their name. The gardens were immaculate. There are 2 art galleries on the premises, as well as a lake and some geese and ducks. We only went to the smaller gallery, which cost $2 to enter and was in an old house. There were several rooms with portraits on display. The larger gallery is the Mornington Regional Art Gallery and looked like it would have housed a decent collection. Not sure if there was an entry fee. We ran out of time as we had lunch booked at 12.30 in Merricks North.
