About
Mostly, we make Gin. An idea that was born from an aversion to getting up and driving to work in the morning and an appreciation for the calming effects of a libation poured over ice in the evening time. And so, Hurdle Creek Still came to be on the family property in the King Valley in March 2016. All of our products are made and bottled onsite in The StillHouse using local ingredients wherever possible. Our gins are vapour infused ensuing light, subtle flavours throughout. We offer a curated tasting by one of our staff of 6-7 products, with tonic or soda available, for $10 person, although the fee is waived with a subsequent 350ml bottle purchase.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not sure if they have fallen on hard times or what. Tasting is now $10 a head, still with a credit for a purchase but the serve sizes are bordering on ridiculous. If it was as big as 1.5mls I’d be surprised. Just enough to wet the tongue on the first sip but not enough to be able to savour and experience the individual gin which is what boutique outlet tasting should be all about. Happy to pay a fee to help cover costs in a small operation but this is the equivalent of $750+ a bottle and I still didn’t get enough to know whether I liked it or not. They also really need to go try some other cellar doors to understand how to present the product- from the other reviews it sounds like if you get the distiller himself it’s good but we didn’t.

The meanest tasting I have ever had, even the tonic was poured out in drops.
Responsible drinking cannot be used as an excise as I had a driver.
The gins are an acquired taste. No subtle flavour, althought if other than a few drops of tonic were added it might have been a different experience.
Not worth the $10 tasting fee.

We had been to Milawa before & this was the first time we had seen this distillery.

Well signposted, we found this easily 6km south of Milawa.

The Gin tastings were excellent, as was the presentation on each tasting, providing excellent information regarding what to expect.

The two dogs are also friendly & happy to see you when you arrive in a placid way.

We purchased as the quality merited it. We look forward to coming back another time.

Staff/Owner has great product knowledge. Given it's located at the place a bit further than concealed road, it's worth going there and try the artisan gin. I'm not a big Gin drinker but still impressed by the varieties offer! The rusty look of the place also reflect the view and their focus of products in a way!

Attention all Gin lovers - here’s your chance to get unique, all created on site, gin with unique aromatics such as coriander in the mix. Fresh, fragrant - this is gin you drink without tonic! Knowledgeable, friendly staff will point you in the right direction of the gun you must have. Well worth the visit.

A quality still in the back blocks of Milawa, worth seeking out if you are into gins that pack a little more flavour than the commercial offerings (not cheap, but then you get what you pay for). ($5 tasting charge is offset against any purchases.)
Simon is a wealth of information about the process and the botanicals (including Australian additives) as well as suggestions on mixing (although I think they are good enough to have straight).
Looking forward to pulling the cork on the “Yardarm” plus I am a sucker for aniseed and trust that the Pastis lives up to how I tasted it at the still.
If you don’t get up that way, then you can find some of the range on offer at Nick’s in Melbourne (out at Doncaster).

Gin is my drink
In the middle of northern Victoria, outside Milawa, along a dirt road is a large tin shed.
The signpost gives it away.
The Hurdle Creek Still.
The distillery is fascinating as is talking to the tasting hostess who knows her botanicals.
The gins are divine.
My pick was the 57% proof Powder Monkey Gin which literally popped on your palate.
A real treasure!

Friendly service and wonderful gin distilled from local ingredients- well worth a visit. Tasted a wide variety of gins, and good recommendations for mixers.

Hurdle Creek Still is a little off the beaten track, however the drive from Milawa is worth it both for the scenic trip through the beautiful countryside and the gins at the destination. The Still is based in an old shed. The staff knowledgeable and passionate about their product. The gins come in a variety of types. Recommended is the Yard Arm and powder monkey. Tastings are $7 a head. Gins are available for purchase on site in handsome 350ml and 700ml bottles.
