Didn't spend enough time in this very good exhibition, all run by volunteers. Vehicles are showcased by themes such as the 80's or sportscars, or motor bikes with three different displays each year of vehicles loaned by enthusiastic local and state-wide owners. Down the back is one incredible collection of thousands of model cars. The gift shop has lots of collectables and souvenirs at very reasonable prices, and by the way, there is free tea, coffee and biscuits included in your admission price.

I travelled all the way from Queensland for the Living in the 70s exhibition and wasn't disappointed. The enthusiastic volunteers that work at the centre were very helpful in explaining the fascinating history of the building and surrounding area as well as the extensive collection on display.

The collection was simply amazing and extremely well presented. As car and bike nuts we drooled for hours over the fascinating exhibits. A nice added touch was being invited to have a cuppa afterwards but unfortunately we wete pressed for time and had to continue our journey on to Melbourne that day. All in all a fascinating visit and we will definitely return.

For over 5 years we have been trying to tie in a visit to the Maffra shed with other car races and finally got the nod this trip. A really interesting collection with lots to see, read & enjoy. The display changes 3 times a year and on our visit, it was cars of the 1980's. Not exactly our favorite time period but still interesting and the bike & model displays are brilliant. Never knew there was so many models ever made! A well-done refurbished guards' carriage was interesting, and the volunteers do a great job. You can also free camp on site and the facilities are very good. Will have to check out the various displays to come?

Not being a car person my self, it was suggested to me to take a visit and wow, totally unexpected, way above my expectations, I was certainly not disappointed.
The collection is very well laid out and the individual exhibits are themselves very interesting, many with a local flavor. The team running the collection are I understand volunteers only too keen to talk about any exhibit.
I was told by one of the staff that the exhibitions are changed on a regular basis.
Plenty to interest all the family. A covered picnic area outside. for visitors use.
The GVC is a real credit to the community and the people involved.

We visited the Gippsland Vehicle Collection and absolutely loved it. My 18 year old daughter loved the old cars snd wished cars where still like that today. The miniature model cars were very interesting too. Definitely recommend.

I love car museums and this one is well worth a visit. They have a very interesting and a bit eclectic collection of classic, collectable and unusual cars and bikes. Some cars you would excpect in an Aussie collection, plus quite a few surprises - like a Jowett Jupiter, 1948 MkIV Jag and a couple of old race cars. An impressive collection of bikes too.
I gather they change the theme from time to time so they must have a few gems tucked away, which they bring out.
There are a lot of other memorabilia displays including a well set out vintage garage and worksop. Cut away engines, tools, old machinery, petrol pumps, period signs, etc.
Most items have labels with relevant details. Some of these needed a bit of work, while others were surprising detailed.
They have a lot of brochures and newsletters from local and Victorian car clubs on display. It looks like this place is a central hub for a lot of like minded enthusiasts.
There is a gift shop and a little cafe.
We were there for the annual M2M rally, and the tops off for cancer fund raiser. The Maffra and Gippsland Vehicle Collection team need to be commended for their support of both of these events.
I'll revisit when I'm in the area again (next year's M2M!)

As my husband is the car enthusiast and saw this as chance to look at the history of Australian and is a ford fan, he was very excited to find an exhibition of this size in a small country town in Gippsland. There were many car related items in the museum that was fascinting to him and my daughter, But the most excitement was the mini car collection that the museum now look after from one man, I must admit this was my favourite part of the museum were these model cars, some of which had never left their boxes.
The staff who look after the museum are all voluntees who are very passionate about preserving our motor history and its always interesting to speak someone who is a passionate as they are

Some great vehicles on display and they display different ones every 4 months.
With our family visit it was a 60s theme.

On a lovely Winter's day I thought it was time to finally make my way to see this museum. I have known about it for awhile, but I had no idea of how well it was set up. It's a beautiful drive out to Maffra, no matter what direction you arrive from. It's not too far from the large roundabout at the Eastern end of the town.

There is heaps of carpark area and a BBQ area outside the museum with lovely grassy lawns. There are vehicles to look at before you even enter the building.

I was greeted by a volunteer and charged $15 for entry. The museum was cold today because it's Winter and it's a huge and rather beautiful old building. So I suggest you rug up to go in. There is EFTPOS available to pay the entry fee or if you want to buy the nicknacks in the giftware area.

The exhibits are changed every four months, so this is somewhere you could return to during the year. Just inside the door today was a stunning Daimler... I did fall completely in lust with it. :)

It's not just cars, but bikes, model vehicles and paraphernalia related to mechanics. It's worth going out to Maffra to look around.
