Not to be missed!
Sep. 2019 • Family
We stumbled upon this by accident and are so glad we did! This was an excellent adventure for both adults and kids alike. Mike Cleeland was incredibly knowledgeable both about palaeontology and geology and delivered an informative an interesting session both at the centre and out at The Caves. He even has a dinosaur named after him (Koolasuchus cleelandi) after finding a jaw bone of the large amphibious dinosaur in the rock here. He was very patient and answered all questions enthusiastically. It’s impossible not to be just as excited about the finds as he is! His enthusiasm is infectious! I have spinal jnjuries and a disability but found as long as I took the walk across the rock pools slowly, the walking and steps down to the beach was not too bad and quite do-able. I will book this again in the next school holidays for my other nephew. We booked only two days before but most sessions were already sold out. I imagine the Christmas holidays would be pretty popular and would be best booked in advance.

Great for kids
Mar. 2019 • Family
The dinosaur dreaming experience is one of Inverloch's best attractions and is not to be missed if you have kids with you. The presenter, Mike Cleeland, is a fountain of knowledge on the subject and his enthusiasm for the subject and this region is both obvious and infectious. He has a real talent for presenting, and retains the interest of kids through his presentation.

Very popular at school holiday times, so best to book in beforehand.

An excellent adventure for dinosaur fans
Oct. 2018 • Family
We attended the Dinosaur discovery at the caves platform tour with Mike. It included hands on activities like searching for trace fossils at the beach, exploring a cave and practicing breaking rocks on the hunt for plant or dinosaur specimens. This part of Victoria can lay claim to some super interesting geological history.
Our 5 year old son really enjoyed it and so did we. Excellent value at $10 per person and the tour took 2 hours across three sites.

Great fun and unique experience for dinosaur or nature lovers
Sep. 2018 • Family
My 6 year old son and I did a dinosaur dreaming tour which starts off in the education room where there are lots of tactile displays of fossils, bones and a sand table where kids can brush away the sand to reveal dinosaur bones. Mike Cleeland led the trip, a highly experienced paleontologist with a wealth of knowledge to share. We then travelled to the caves to check out the dinosaur footprint and caves. My map had the wrong car park circled so I drove up and down the road three times before finally finding the group! Frustrating. We searched through some rubble and rocks from a recent rock fall to find fossils and found some rocks with plant fossils on them (I found some fern fronds and my son found some scales from a pine cone which he was excited about). We then walked around to the caves but the tide was coming in so we couldn't spend much time in there. It was informative and had enough "action" to keep my son interested. He was able to take the fossils home so he loved that. The tour was two hours so not too long that the kids get bored, but long enough to go exploring. Would highly recommend doing this tour or one of the other dinosaur activites when in the area. It's not often you can go down the beach and see a dinosaur footprint!

The Caves is a palaeo treasure-trove
Apr. 2018 • Friends
The Caves is part of a rugged sandstone coastline near Inverloch Victoria.
Travelling a few kilometres from Inverloch on the Cape Patterson Road, the Caves is the first beach access road. As with all beach access tracks in the Bunurong Marine Park, they are well maintained and in good repair. A well-formed sandy track to the Caves beach winds down through thick coastal tea-tree scrub before crossing a small bridge and onto the wide, intertidal platform beach.
Along the base of the steep high bluffs, sand has been deposited to form a 10-20 metre wide beach, which is exposed at low tide. There is not always sufficient beach at low tide.
The area is home of the Dinosaur Dreaming Dig site of the Monash University and has produced more fossil remains than any other single paleao dig site in Australia.
The area near the Caves is so rich in fossils that an annual dig still makes exciting discoveries of new species of fish, birds, mammals and small dinosaurs every year.
Please note, The Oaks, Twin Reefs, Shack Bay and Eagles Nest are all within the ‘no-take zone’ of the Bunurong Marine National Park.
Flat Rocks and The Caves are not included in the Bunurong Marine National Park and visitors to these beaches are free to collect shells, fossils and rocks.
Visitors should wear sturdy shoes as rocky outcrops and wave-cut platforms can be jagged, sharp and very slippery.
Good mobile phone reception is available from Telstra and 6km drive to the Inverloch hospital and police.

Fantastic day of exploration and education!
Apr. 2018 • Family
We had a group of 32 - 8 families - and Mike was happy to arrange a special tour for our group. He had the kids engaged and excited from the word GO! In fact, they couldn't stop asking questions - the more he explained, the more they enquired. We all loved the hands on exploration on the beach and at the caves, but the highlight was definitely smashing up the rocks to find our own fossils - we were very successful too which the kids just loved. Great day - highlight of our camping holiday - super value - can't wait to do another exploration tour soon! Thanks again Mike - the kids are still talking about it!

Interesting reading material at the Shell museum about the dinosaurs once roaming the area, walk down along the coast line at Cape Paterson to visit where they once walked & fossils have been found. Great for all ages.

Day with the Dinosaurs
Mar. 2018 • Family
We spent the day with Mike exploring Inverloch. It was a fantastic experience and he is very knowledgeable. All four of us learned many knew facts that we talked about on the two hour ride back to Melbourne. Everything that was promised was delivered for only $10. I highly recommend this to anyone. I would definitely do this again.

Nothing much to see
Feb. 2018
There are just a couple of boards to read about the dinosaur dig but there is no evidence of it on the beach.
