We took this walk from the Heathcote town centre and up past the Powder Magazine. The signs say 1.7km but it felt further than that due to the slow progress on quite a rocky path. Would not recommend as an easy walk but worth it for the exercise and the view from Viewing Rock. We did this in May on a cool day...not sure how pleasant it would be in the heat.

Feels a bit longer than .9kms when walking from the car park, but well worth it. Even on a cool day, it is beautiful up there.

I started at the Powder Magazine and headed towards Viewing Rock...the 'path' to viewing rock is ... well rocky. This is not a hike for anyone with mobility issues... although I can say it's quite well marked to get to the top. But as we know, it's about the journey not the destination...so don't forget to enjoy the view and natural environment along the way. :)

Once you reach Viewing Rock, which is quite literally just a rock, there is a picnic table there to sit and enjoy the surrounding views. It was once I had hiked up that I realised there is a carpark up there...so you can drive ( not sure how to get to that) . The carpark has room for a lot of cars. I walked past the carpark and decided to walk towards Devil's Cave... you follow a road for awhile... which is quite rocky and then all of a sudden you get to a sign and veer to your right. From here the path is not well marked, you may have to walk over trees and sometimes it's also not clear. However, it is a pretty walk and this bit may test your fitness a bit. You will eventually arrive at the Devil's Cave which has a sign, but the sign has fallen over and it's not really clear how to walk down to it.

Returning to the carpark from the cave is all smooth sailing as the paths are well marked. On the return I saw a couple of kangaroos and a wallaby. I did this hike in the mid-afternoon. I really enjoyed it... but maybe the random conversations that I had with people along the way helped. :)

Enjoyable but a bit strenuous walk to devils cave and then onto lookout rock. Disappointed to see a memorial plaque stuck onto rock face. Not the place for it.

Completed the Devil's Cave and Viewing Rock Lookout circuit on a warmish morning.

The trail starts at powder magazine and winds its way around to the cave and the lookout.

We took a leisurely pace and stopped frequently to admire the view and checkout the local wildlife (birds, wallaby's, insects and lizards).

The path is rocky so recommend boots and trekking polls if you have dodgy ankles.

The cave isn't really a cave, rather a large rock with a small gap between it and the trail. You can circumnavigate it if you're into playing Spiderman for a minutle.

The trail between the cave and the lookout is mostly single file. There are some trail markers throughout but the signage is not good.

All in all a good hike of moderate difficulty.

There are no facilities one this trail.

Took the car up but better suited to a 4wd. The track is not very even for family sedans. Wanted to walk up but a bit far with young kids.

We did the circuit walk, including viewing rock, powder magazine and Devils cave, totalling about 3 km. The walk itself is moderate and good for some exercise, the view over Heathcote is OK. As mentioned by others, signage could be better but follow the markers with the little triangle and you can't really go wrong. The powder magazine is probably the highlight of this walk, devils cave is harder to find but nice for kids to play in/around. Plenty of space to park your car near the Viewing rock but road up is loose rocks/ stones and can be challenging passing cars going up/down. There is a better place to park closer to the Powder magazine and start the circuit from there.

Really great circuit, but signage is a real issue! From the Powder Magazine to Devil’s Cave wasn’t too bad, signs needed repair but could follow. But finding the viewing rock caused a few problems, lack of signs/hard to decipher which way arrows went. We enjoyed it all in all but walked an extra few km.

Followed the signs to the lookout mainly for the exercise.unfortunately poor visibility spoiled the view but good potential for better weather. We then continued on to the Devils cave. Signs need to be repaired as nearly walked past. This would be more for the exercise as not very large.

Not realising you can walk up from the Main Street, we drove to the Viewing Rock car park. The view is pretty good, not exactly outstanding though.

We walked a couple of kilometres to the cave and then wandered on for a few more kilometres around one of the tracks. We had hoped to walk an 8km loop following two tracks but one of the group picked up an injury so we headed back early.

The main track has been reasonably well graded. The other track to the cave is much smaller, one person at a time, and can be very rocky and unsteady.

We enjoyed the time up here. Very quiet and peaceful, only met two other groups.

Nothing particularly spectacular but a pleasant wander.
