We went up on the Heathcote on Show weekend, and attended a few wineries.
This was my first time here, on the recommendation of a friend, who has been a long time customer.
Very impressed with the whole operation....and the wine tasting was of excellent tastes
It's worth venturing into Sanguine Estate when in this region

Ok guilty as charged. I love their wine( particularly their reds) but what makes it really worth a visit is the setting of the vineyard and the excellent tasting facilities and staff. It is n ot a long way out of Heathcote on the highway to Echuca ( don't miss out on Munari or Lindsey and Noeline Ross's Bridge Vineyards nearby) . It is set in a lovely valley and the pride of the establishment ( and their results at wine shows is testament to this) . They have special events and music days are a highlight too. I rate their Progeny shiraz extremely highly too.

Wonderful experience. Stopped off to break up the journey and so glad we did.

The wines that Sanugine don't need any writing about as people like James Halliday rave about them.

The lady who took us through the tasting was so knowledgable. Turned out it was her first day but she took us through everything as if she had been there for years. Beautiful space inside with the ability to look around and have a glass of wine at the same time.

Didn't feel any pressure to buy but picked up a Tempranillo and D'Orsa Shiraz

Our tasting was run by Tony Hunter, Director & Father! Not only did we get the full run down on their wines and the estate, but we got the estate's family history as well. We tasted 8 wines, with 4 of them being Shiraz. In our time in Australia we have tasted many Shiraz wines from many regions, but Sanguines' Shiraz was with out doubt the best we have tasted. Their awards and Halliday ratings proves the point. All their wines are way above average and the traditional style Chardonnay, Rose, Tempranillo, and Cabernet Sauvignon Blend are just super. Loved them all! The D'Orsa Shiraz is not inexpensive, but for such an amazing wine well priced, but they have a number of wines priced for every day drinking, so the choice is yours. A must visit when in the Heathcote region.

We discovered this vineyard around 2 years ago and so glad we did! Sanguine is the only reason that we make the trip to Bendigo to purchase their wines. We both love shiraz and they have several varieties that have won various awards, including 5th best shiraz in the world. It's a family run business which we love to support as Tony makes you feel so welcome and is just a nice guy who is passionate about his wines, family and business. If you love shiraz be sure to pay them a visit, they also have a fantastic rose!!!

Hi Stinga24 Such a lovely review and we appreciate the time you took to write it. Tony (Dad) I am sure passed on many family stories during your past visits and I'm sure there are still more to come on your next visit. Cheers Jodi (CEO/Daughter)

One of the wineries highly recommended to our family group was Sanguines. In a beautiful setting, as many of the Heathcote wineries are, we were surprised somewhat that the wine tasting was in a corner of the high concrete warehouse. Having said that though, it was quite atmospheric in itself, with wine barrels in the corner, a heater to stand next to in the cold, and when Frances, our assistant explained the process of winemaking, she was able to point to the various vats, machinery and tubs around us to illustrate what she was talking about!! Apparently too, they had a huge up dinner there not long ago, and that would have been fun too.
but the purpose of the visit was to sample the wines, and this we did and enjoyed! And Frances's attention and helpful knowledge was terrific. Armed with a couple of dozen wines, we set off back to our accomodation and looking forward to imbibing our purchases in the future.

It was a pleasure to meet Tony Hunter at his winery recently and to be able to enjoy tasting his family's very commendable Shiraz. The awards and recognition for his family's efforts in producing and creating these delightful wines are well deserved. We appreciated Tony's friendly, informative and modest approach when explaining the differences between the various styles of shiraz available from his winey. Whilst being spoilt for choice of wineries when visiting the Heathcote area I would highly recommend that a visit to Sanguine Estate is essential.

Having just moved into the Heathcote region we are looking forward to visiting every one of 35+ wineries within close range of here. Sanguine Estate was the first. I am not a wine snob but do enjoy a nice heavy or hard red. On the day we went there, the estate had run out of Chardonnay! Not a problem for me as I am not fond of white wine but it must mean it is a good drop if they have already run out.
This is quite a young winery, less than 20 years old, they had 6 or 7 Reds for tasting, I gave the Rose a miss and started at the lower end of the scale and worked my way through to the "D'Orsa" top of the range Shiraz. They were all quite nice, but I prefer the lower end of the price bracket, not due to price but due to that end of the market usually suiting my untalented pallet. I really liked their "Kindred Spirit" Shiraz and came home with a case of 12. At $175 for the dozen I thought it a good choice. It is, supposedly, a "drink now" vintage, which suits me fine, no use having a huge cellar if you cark it before you get a chance to drink what you bought :)

Nearing the end of the day we came across a winery we did not know. They welcomed us in for a tasting and were very knowledgeable about every aspect of the wines. We were very pleasantly surprised with the wines we tasted - all reds and all great. We looked out for the wine at a few restaurants but didn't see it. We thinks this was a very special find and bought quite a few wines home to share them with friends. Sanguine is a very pleasant wine at a good price point.

Sorry that we had overlooked your review until now. Thank you very much for your kind words. We are thrilled you discovered us and enjoyed our wines so much. Our Progeny shiraz and Inception Shiraz can be found in smaller boutique run bottle shops in Victoria, NSW and Qld. The rest of our wines can be purchased directly through us. Hope to see you again one day. Cheers The Hunter Family
