Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Maroondah dam used to be a great place to go and have a picnic with well maintained gardens and facilities. Now it is starting to show its age with reduced maintenance on all fronts. Not solely the fault of Parks Victoria that is responsible for this park as successive governments continue to defund the Parks Service.
It's about time that governments started to truly value our extensive parks system and what they offer for the community and visitors and start to fund them better so that they continue to be utilised and not abused

Great place to visit with the family. We did not go for a picnic and did not use the facilities but rather looking for an interesting walk and found exactly that. A variety of lovely views available. The walk up to the top of the dam wall is recommended for good views and photos. At the same time, do not miss the bottom of the wall which has its own set of beautiful scenery. Plenty of colourful birds around at the main car park, making this place even more interesting.

My husband and I have been coming to Maroondah reservoir for forty years.
In the last five years the upkeep has been sadly neglected.
All the firewood barbecues have been removed and replaced with nothing.
On this visit even the gas barbecues were not working.
We improvised with a tin foil tray and some wood that we brought but my husband got singed with this makeshift grill.
More and more of the benches are splintered and there are less seats than ever.
The toilets are always revolting.
It’s ridiculous, this is the twenty first century and our taxes contribute to this park.
Sadly, we won’t be coming back!

This lovely old park has something for everyone. Barbeques, family picnics, walking tracks, and the historic Reservoir.
After indulging in a long lunch, took a walk around the park and then made our way to the top of the reservoir wall. Wonderful views of the park and the dam with history signposts along the way.
Will make sure to go back during summer to have a picnic and enjoy the grounds.

Took a trip to the dam wall and had a lovely morning exploring the surroundings. You can walk across the top and around the bottom. Clean and well kept by the parks department. Plenty of areas for picnics.

This is an excellent park to visit either for a BBQ lunch or simply to walk around. There are several walking tracks including one that takes you to a lookout overlooking the dam wall and beyond. Well maintained, except for the potholes on the road in, it is well worth it.

My wife and I visited this place for a walk, on our drive home from Marysville. We have been here many times over the years.
We like the scenic views and the walking paths for exercise.
I hope the potholes on the exit road will be attended to and fixed soon.

Must go in Autumn. The colours of the leaves are so beautiful. So much walking & running around for the kids. Waterfall was beautiful, toilet facilities, picnic areas. Parking close by. Be careful lots of animal droppings on the lawn. Close to Beechworth bakery.

What a beautiful place. Such a lovely drive out of Melbourne stopping at Beechwood Bakery for their famous pies, then arriving in this exquisite location to walk them off again. There are a plethora of walkways throughout the dam area. The distant vista across the dam is beautiful. Below are lovely laid out gardens with a large sun dial which are best viewed from above. The walk across the dam is gentle enough for most visitors to a vantage point. From here the more adventurous can wander in a circuit down and round, through the trees back to the car park. There had been a few trees down but this didn't deter us from climbing over them on our adventures. The added attraction of the friendly bird life, parakeets and cockatiels among them added a colourful display delightful for all. Fabulous day out! Thoroughly recommend a visit. Of course there are some great places to take in on the way but if you had your own picnic, make a day of it. Worth it for the walks.

Lovely setting, plenty of area to enjoy having a BBQ, many available on site.
Large gazebo sitting areas under cover and once you have had a large meal there are walking tracks that are enjoyable if some requiring to use a lot of energy but worth it as the views are spectacular.
Extremely well maintained and clean.

is there fly fishing here?
or can you suggest a lake North of Brunswick, say within an hours drive?
Written 8 March 2024
The reservoir provides water for Melbourne so no fishing. But fishing is allowed in the Eildon dam and the pondage below the wall.

There are a number of gas and electric BBQ's in the park and my guess is they would expect you would use one of their facilities particularly in summer.I can see no reference in the Parks Victoria data that says you can or cannot use a private BBQ but I would suspect the answer might be no.

It is possible to push a pram from the carpark at the corner of Maroondah Rear Access Road and Henderson loop Road, for maybe 150 metres to the grassy areas below the dam wall. If you are looking for a place for toddler water play, I would suggest driving the Donnelley's Weir Road. The road is closed where the road crosses Donnelly's Creek and at that point there is a shallow, safe and fairly shady place for kids to play in clean water.

Due to storm damage, a large part of the park is cordoned off, though you can still walk on the dam wall. That said, there are still a number of pergolas and gas BBQs that are accessible in the park.
